You are very right. The professionals point the knife towards them. But until you've mastered the technique, it's much safer to point it away -- or better yet, use a scissors. I found it very hard to perfect the knife technique, and was told using a sharp scissors works just as well. -Meghan

I agree with your personal taste when it comes to the choice of colors.. But, the good flower decorators often point the knife towards themself since this gives the best cut when it`s comes to flowers. And besides, knife is the best tool to use because it`s sharper then a scissor and if you want your bouquet to last it`s important to maintain the flowers "water-straw" by being careful not to "crush" it...

Nice video to demonstrate the basics of floral arrangements. 1) You can add a little bit of bleach to clean the waters, but you need clean water so the flowers will last longer. 2)Cut the stems underwater ( I also heard under running water works as well). 3) If using a knife (instead of scissors) pull the flower away from you. The knife hand stays still for safety and accuracy. Thank you for sharing.

Quigs, I noticed this too the first time I saw this video. Contrast the one with Hank Williams you can find elsewhere here. June was the dancing frontpiece of the act; there had to be a reason for her to be sitting down like this, and I suspect it was pregnancy. Back in the 50s pregnant women were supposed to avoid strenuous activity...perhaps that was the reason Maybelle gave her "the look".

The French pronunciation is a total disaster... glad to see with that I'm not the only one to notice. Also, the mezzo completely loses track of her harmony notes on her last iteration of "Ah! Descendons ensemble!"--she's actually singing in unison with Lakme for 2 measures! And what's with the strange rubato in the "Nous appellent/Viens descendons" lick in the second "A" section? This can NOT be considered a great performance. If you thought so, sorry, but you just don't know the difference.

First heard this band in Deadly Outlaw Rekka, an awesome Revenge Film by Takashi Miike the entire album was the music for the movie, and one day a friend of mine gave me a burned copy of their album that I had no idea was them til Satori 1 kicked in man did I rock out hard to it, still do lol. I was lucky enough to see this band at a university party in the early 70s. They were great but only got to do this song and one other (Nagasaki I think) before a fake bomb scare cleared the joint. The lead singer went bananas when the campus cops came in.

The Japanese guy who kills So ji Sub's character is the Takao Osawa, the actor in the Japanese movie "Crying Out Love in the Center of the World". I guess they made him really ugly because he's the bad guy in this video, but he doesn't seem that ugly in the movie. Both Mr Flower and Crying Out Love are very sad. Go watch it!
