I didn't know that Jonas had got into the team that way, 5vid. To me, Jonas didn't look like he could box, couldn't slip a punch, and he looked overawed before the bout. That explains it. He had a lot of courage, though, and it must have been an exciting time for him.

The official stats show that George was 6'3.5" and 219 lbs. for this fight. Foreman was a beast even as a kid. And he was a kid here. Only 19 years of age. I don't think I would have wanted to mess with him when he was five years old.

To tell the truth, Jonas Cepulis is not russian! He was just at the Soviet Union's team but he is LITHUANIAN, because Lithuania was ocupated by evil Russia then. And what is the most funny here in this story that Cepulis wasn't a professional boxer. He was just an ordinary worker at one of Lithuanian factories when russian coach invited him to be soviet boxers trainings' partner. Cepulis did there a great job and knocked out one of russian boxers before olimpics and just then he got there ;))

upon reflection, chepulis really did show tremendous heart, he stuck to the game plan and didn't fall apart like many would, but foreman was just too strong, willful and dominant for the russian.

Kooney wasn't a bum;he was a very good contender. he even beat Larry Holmes as an amateur, so he had a track record. I'd go out onto a limb and disagree w/Mr. Foreman, who did fight him and i only watched on screen. i think Frazier's hook was certainly as good as Kooney's if not better. Frazier was a slow starter and George never got hit with a good Frazier hook, 'cause he got to him first & often. after all Frazier was much smaller than Kooney.

Shows what you know about boxing you fucking waste of skin. Cooney's left hook is one of the deadliest in boxing history. Ask Ken Norton and Larry Holmes about that. Foreman himself said it was the hardest PUNCH, let alone left hook, that he EVER took. Frazier did have a great left hook, no question. But Cooney's was better, plain and simple. Frazier did not have a better chin than Tyson. Not even close. Tyson only truly go KO'd once against Douglas. The ref stopped it against Holyfield, Tyson took 8 rounds of horrible punishment against Lewis before he pretty much gave up, he wasn't actually knocked out. McBride and Williams he just quit they didn't actually hurt him. Tyson was built to take punishment and even a Tyson hater like Larry Merchant has said what a great chin he has.

They were both similar. Both went far with their knockout power and killer reputations. All it took was someone to not back down-- they both lost and never were the same fighters again. In all, I think Foreman would have murdered Tyson. Frazier had a much better chin than Tyson and Big George put him down six times in their first fight.

He never had a leg under him. This palooka had a chin that was so fragile he was afraid to go to the opera lest it would crack. He never effectively answered him acting instead like a fluttering rag doll. His offence was based upon the distant hope that his chin would break the fist of his opponent. He missed his calling he should have spent a lifetime waiting tables.

I agree with all the Tyson fans; I would so have loved to see Tyson fight Foreman in 1985-1989 before Buster Douglas. Because Tyson's ass would have bounced even higher off the canvas. Foreman would have answered any questions about how great Tyson was. Tyson would have stood in front of Foreman throwing punches...George would get hurt by Tyson's and Tyson would go unconscious by Foreman's. Lights out baby!!! Foreman wins.
