You're confusing discipline with conditioning. Your body will do whatever your brain tells it to provided it's capable of it, it's all a state of mind. Supposedly iron body training works by conditioning the body to be stronger, and in a muscular and bone sense maybe that's true as it is with most exercises, at least the ones that don't destroy said body, but I've yet to see anything super human from it or to suggest that anything other than a moderately healthy diet should be required.

Ok fine, But I have a question, how can you do an "Iron Shirt" if your body is not disciplined? Others can't do that because they have vital points. There are sayings that "mind over body" to do that stuffs. Your Mind can think that you will not be hurted but, is your body can do that if it's not disciplined?

I'm somewhat sceptical of the claim most diseases are caused by acids considering the various vectors of infection and so on. It's also possible to go to far the other way incidentally, to have to high an alakline diet.

If you enjoy TaiChi I'd contest that studying it isn't really discipline it's indulgence. That said there are many different uses people put it to. Some like the study of body mechanics, others a certain state of mind it induces, some like fitness, there are many reasons a person might pursue it. Your body would have to be incredibly abused to just 'give up' and be unable to balance your pH.

Hmmmmm...... You got a point, but what is the purpose of studying TaiChi if you didn't discipline yourself? There are posibilities that your body will give up and do not know how to balance your pH if you are very acidic. Majority of the deseases are caused by acids. To make sure to become healthy, avoid Acidic foods and drinks. You can eat Fruits and vegetables instead of unhealthy foods. It has a good effect on your body.

No doubt, however since your body maintains a relatively stable pH balance the acidity can't be preventing flow of, 'Chi Energy,' since the acidity will remain the same anyway you'll just expend extra resources to counter it. In any case you don't need to avoid junk foods and soft drinks as long as you don't go nuts, the body has reserves to deal with such things.

And if it is happens, your body will be forced to get nutrients in your bones. Chen Manching and Fu Zhongwen had the same sifu, Yang Chengfu. But if you compare how they do the form you will find a lot of differences. Even Chengfu's son,Zhenduo, does it differently than his father. Tai chi is an art, and all sifus interpret it differently. As long as the essentials are understood and followed the form can be played with subtle variences. The same way music will be interpreted differently by various musiciens. Beginners and intermediate though should try to copy their sifu.

That I cannot say. I only know that Abraham Liu did teach breathing and can only assume that he learned it from CMC. But this is the problem with the transmission of this kind of knowledge from person to person. It is never clear what was explicitly taught by the master to the student versus what 50+ years of doing the form by the next generation that the next generation of masters discover for themselves and pass onto their students.

I studied the Yang (Chen ManChing) with Mr. Liu in 1980-82 at the Taoist Sanctuary in San Diego, Ca. I found him to be a very patient and from what I have heard in the Tai Chi community, one of the most knowledgable in the Taoist arts...and I agree, you do feel the work out after awhle.

Exactly, no gongfu. Everyone here is seeing fluidity of qi, I see broken qi, lack of connection. This doesn't bode well as taiji for health either. You teach it this way to someone older and you will destroy their knees. When you let your knee bend inward you break the chain of qi flow from the ground up and do damage to ligaments. She is pretty, the form looks pretty, but I wouldn't let my mother practice like this. Look carefully at taiji principle when viewing. There is a lot wrong.

No, taiji doesn't HAVE to be GREAT, but it needs to follow certain principles to be good for health or fighting. This has nothing to do with ego, it's just the basis of taiji. It is ego to present a pretty but empty form as a guide. I don't know the background of this woman, but it looks like an instructional vid to me. I have no stake in promoting myself or belittling her, but I think it fair to point out fundamental flaws.

Simply said, the hands need to transition from unflexed (yin) to flexed (yang) throughout the entire movement. If they go straight from yin to yang before the completion of the movement, then it cheapens the amount of power the strike should have.

When I broke my ankle in the 90's and the doctor said it is healed I wondered what I could do for my self. The cosmic forces whispered Tai chi and I listened. Chen Manching had already passed through this plane of existence and still left a legacy that will help heal revitalize and ease the dis ease of the pilgrim seeker. The short form 37 movement has helped me not only with that injury but throughout life.

The videos from Cheng Man Ching in New York, doing form in Central Park, are more popular, and in better quality, but this videoclip is made with a better understanding of Tai Chi from whoever made the film. I think its best described as one becoming a Soft body with a Sturdy Structure. something limp is lifeless- thus if u r limp, u already lost. but in taiji it is more a 'cotton wrapped around steel' type of feel.

Shaolin temple is now a matter of tourism, and since 1960 China lost several wushu masters due to communist policy. Now those who are designated as master are mostly sport trainers and tourism demonstrators, not really martial art masters. Fortunatly several masters came to USA or Taiwan, that's why we can find good tai chi professors even in US or Europe. A bad master is a guy who looks like a master as we imagine (white beard...) but who couldn't offer something else than beautiful movements.
