waqsnasir, You're actually just wrong. You should probably brush up on your boxing history...because, to this day, Frazier hates Ali. He's been quoted as saying he was the one that put Ali in the state he's in, not the Parkinsons. I don't know what Ali's motivation was. But he went way over the line. He called Frazier "ugly," "stupid," a gorilla and an Uncle Tom. I don't think there's a black man in American who wouldn't take offense at one or all of those.

Great fight. However I hated the way Ali conducted himself with the fights with frazier. He was a right bastard to him, especially after Joe had helped him in the past and that they were friends. He was very over the top imo and he disrespect cost him a lot. Joe was a one of (if not thee) toughest heavyweight eva. Blind in one eye then cant see outta the other and still wanted to fight. People dont realise that in the 14th round Ali wanted to finish until Futch threw in the towel(rightly so)

Yeah, Ali could take a punch: You should watch the Shavers fight if you haven't already...incredible. He was knocked down earlier in his career against Cooper and Sonny Banks. But I guess it was because "Clay" wasn't fully grown yet...I don't know; it's a weird thing taken a punch; maybe he just didn't see the punch coming, which can make a big difference. He was knocked down by Wepner with a body shot, but it was b.s.; it looked like Ali tripped on his own two feet.

Joe should still get some credit for beating Hopkins; Hopkins is like the Archie Moore of our era. But for Jones, no way. I wish they all fought in their prime but boxing politics is a terrible thing in boxing. Calzaghe schooled Lacy and Kessler; to me, his two best wins. So he should be given a ton of credit for those two, along with being undefeated. He's going to the Hall Of Fame; he's a great fighter.

I've read a lot of your comments Orangewind and you talk a lot of sense, you seem to know your boxing. I agree with you, I noticed how much he was relying on clinching to try to nulify Calzaghi. Nonetheless, he remains a hard fighter to beat as Pavlik found and I just wanted to ensure Calzaghi got some respect due for his achievements. I respect your opinion and agree with your points about Ali

easily because he did i have watched all fights and i have seen all reviews of the fights and while i regard them all as great battles showcasing norton as ali's worst match up in terms of style i agree on how all the fights resulted apart from i though norton won the first by unanimous,i thought ali won the second by unanimous and i felt that the third fight should have been a split decision because it was that close if you disagree thats fine

The first fight was a decisive Norton win, definitely not a SD. The second was closer but Norton still won regardless. Ali got that one in order to make the lucrative Foreman fight. The third was his best showing against Norton, but he still lost, irrespective of the cards.

completely disagree norton the judges scored the first six rounds for norton,ali won the next four rounds,lost the 11th round and then took the next four that's 8-7 by all means it shouldnt have been a unanimous decision but the first fight shouldnt have been a split decision and the second fight shoudlnt have been a split decision norton's lack of agression in the later rounds cost him not due to cardio but due to advice from his corner who told him to try and coast the rest of the fight

Frazier slipped more punches a round and got hit more by Ali but it was because he put on so much consistent pressure, whereas Tyson fought more in spurts and was more willing to let you tie him up, whereas Frazier put his head in your chest, got his hands free and made you fight him off.

In my opinion although Frazier's slip and duck rate was more than Tyson's, i think Frazier actually got hit more than Tyson. But,in saying that this might be due to the different era of fighters they fought. i.e most would say that Frazier's era was much more competitive than Tysons era !!!!

Joe Frazier-hands down my favorite boxer, his determination was unmatched, when he got smokin his slips were unmatched in the heavyweight division, left hook is yet to be matched, he was a godamn grunt in that ring. You got to really respect a fighter like frazier, always liked him more then Ali. Its too bad about the foreman fights, sometimes it dont matter how great you are, someone else has got a style to completely over power yours. Frazier/Foreman was a mismacth in style-not skill.

Boxing and MMA are 2 totally different disciplines friend. I have done both and the training regime is totally different for each sport. The focal points of boxing are my footwork, headmovement, handspeed, co-ordination and such but with MMA I work on grappling, BJJ and always look to perfect my ground game. You can't practice arm bars and triangles. As a specctator you CAN compare the 2 but as an athlete they are worlds apart.

The rematch three years later was even sadder. Frazier was over the hill and getting pudgy - George, who after losing to Ali, was ridiculed and angry and went downhill for a while mentally - snapped out of it for Frazier and trained full tilt again, but still angry and actually said he was going to hammer Frazier worse this time. Frazier tried to fight from outside for a few rounds, which was sad and looked desperateg, and finally George wore him down, zeroed in and destroyed him again.

You gotta admire Frazier's heart, but this coulda been fatal. He was no match for Big George, who was far too powerful - and once George found the range, he started dropping thunderbolts into Frazier. The one at the end of round one effectively finished Frazier. Round two was just Frazier refusing to quit, but he's lucky he didn't leave there in a coma. The ref should have stopped it at the first knockdown of round two. Frazier was out on his feet.

They say contrasts in styles make fights. As good as Frazier was, he was made for Foreman and vulnerable to his weapons. A massive upper cut hurt Frazier as he tried to duck under the jab, and the massive right cross sent him down. Foreman was possibly the strongest and hardest punching fighter ever. He manhandled Frazier easily at close quarters pushing him out of punching range, so Frazier could not work up close which is what he did so well. Foreman took away all the advantages Frazier had.

Awesome diplay of power punching. It's hard to imagine seeing this demolition that Frazier was the favourite going into this fight as undefeated Champion. Frazier was made for Foreman's style. Hard jab, big upper cut to catch Frazier as he tried to bob and weave and then a massive right cross once Fraziers head was raised up. Plus Foreman was massively strong and unlike Ali could push Frazier back with ease when Frazier tried to got in close to throw those feared short hooks. Classic fight.

Woah. I avoided watching this fight for a long time because I was afraid to see Joe hit so bad. He didn't stand a chance here. Usually, his bobbling style would have worked, but in this case, George was able to hit Joe in the split-seconds of bobbing that would leave Joe unbalanced to a punch. Gosh, George hit Joe with some terrible shots. I was surprised that George got away with pushing Joe so much.

The only reason I did it was becasue of the Ali Frazier Saga. i wouldn't care about all the various fighters with common opponents. Ali and Frazier are linked together in history regardless. Therefore looking at thier record against common opponents explains to some extent why they never had a lacklust bout vs eachother.

Just because a fight doesn't take place where it can be officiated & protective of the fighters doesn't mean the people involved are technically inept amateurs & not seasoned martial artists in their own right. Like I said, I'm not trying to belittle his achievements. I do disagree about him not being ready though. I think if he was ever going to be ready to jump in with the top dogs, it was time. He had a great career, got in shape, had his practice against guys who were a step below the best and rightly moved on. As for who did what against mutual opponents, those arguments go nowhere because styles make fights and you can't necessarily gage anything from how two men did against the same opposition.

Ali didn't go right into the ring with Frazier after his three year lay off Bigbadben. He fought Quarry and Bonavena first and the Bonavena fight was pretty ugly and awkward. He got his practice in first though, not to diminish his accomplishments in any way. Just for the sake of fact. Plus, I believe Ali is only two years older than Frazier and with the three years out of the ring they had about two years difference in professional fighting. Ali started 5 yrs earlier and had the 3 years off.

Ali beat Foreman when he was 32 and George was 25 and unbeaten. He beat Liston who had tons of experience and ALi was only 22. He beat Frazier 2 of 3 times all past his own prime and went 15 rds in the sole loss agaisnt a prime Joe after being out the ring for 3 1/2 years.
