Your hand position with the left hand looks very good. I am having a very hard time with this. I'd love to see your left hand positioning from the back and top view so I can try a better thump position that works.

Thanks for posting lessons. Much appreciated. I am a beginner. I am just about to go on to doing scales with no open strings. From this lesson, I will take the advice to go up and down on the strings with alternate picking. I noticed that you don't anchor a finger or two on your pick guard with your right hand. How do you always find your strings? My teacher says "two fingers on the guitar" over and over.

Cool stuff, no clue about the order that I should learn stuff or what I should learn, but I'll be more then happy to check out all your videos (Along with others on the net) and learn whatever it is that you teach. I'm sure it'll all dovetail together somewhere. As for teaching via Skype and webcam, I think that'd be a really cool idea and is worth experimenting with... just need a structured way for viewers to communicate. Me and my buddy are both interested.

i wounldnt use the open ones, your right, i just clicked on this, but i already know many scales and useing the open... is like a " Do Not Do " but this is for beginners , and even tho i disagree with his teaching methods, this is alot easyer, but hard in the long run, cuz later ur not gunna use just the bottom fingers, your gunna use all of your fingers i can put the scale i learned bellow for the Pentitonic Scale #1 1 2 3 1 1 1 1 1 1 4 5 3 3 3 6 4 4 4 7 8

At least start these scales in F. Everyone can learn to play them open at any point, but people need to be able to see the common pattern of these scales, and that's hard to do when you are including the open strings.

Not really. Aadd9 means the Chord of A with an added 9 so A(1)- C#(3)- E(5)- B(9) Where sus(suspended)chords have no 3rd, Major or Minor hence the name. So Asus2 means you "suspend" the 2nd instead of a 3rd so A(1)- B(2)- E(5)

This is helpful,but culd I suggest that including a little diagram would be clearer, your oher fingers appear to cover strings that aren't held down, so you spend time laboriously explaining which fingers hold down strings?

The interview was in Guitar Player--great magazine! And PLAY is one great album! I really love his surf rock instrumental, "Turf's Up!"

Buckethead is a guitarist that you can't judge by watching a few videos, just like Paisley (By the way, I recommend searching for Bucket's Hog Bitch Stomp, a nice country song). Buckethead can play all sorts of genres. I downloaded some Paisley albums, and he sucks, but you said his next album wil include other genres. Buckethead makes each album a different genre.

Now I honestly haven't heard of any of the players you mentioned, but I know that Buckhead is one of the greatest guitars ever. He's EXTREMELY versatile and a complete virtuoso on the guitar. He's master every technique there is, and his music output is, unquestionably, unparalleled; he has release ATLEAST 60 full albums! Yes, he doesn't play country that much, but when he does, he's as good as any other

Doesnt mean he's doyle dykes or (insert your hero) but he's a very competent guitar player, he just prefers the shred. Nothing wrong with doing what you love, and loving what you do. But watch, bucket has chops to do a lot of this kind of stuff. his heart lies elsewhere, but you gotta love the chicken'n'picken!

I've played guitar most of my life and as I was self taught I never learnt barre chords. I often wondered why you would bother doing a barre chord when it is often easier to play a 'normal' chord or non barre chord (not sure what you call it). Please explain!

no such thing as a 'simple' F chord it takes the most finger strength becaause you are barring the fret closest to the neck. kepp trying those 3 barre chords and open chords, also try and get your hands on a finger strengthener device, they do wonders.

Try not to do it all with your thumb. Instead, use your barre finger to 'pull' the neck toward your body (while also still applying some pressure with the thumb). Experiment, and you'll find the right amount of pressure.

Try 'House of the Rising Sun' by The Animals -- nice, slow tempo, good chord strumming practice. Am C D F Am C E Am C D F Am E Am C D F Am E Am E Play 5 verses like this, then the last line of verse 6 is Am E Am C D F Am E Am F Am F... Do two down strums of each chord, and it'll sound pretty good. Yes, the F is hard at first, but this song gives you plenty of practice at it. Master this barre chord and the others will be easy!

I would start by mastering the pentatonic scale in all five positions before moving on to modes. The only real reason for that is the pentatonic acts as a 'skeleton scale' of sorts, because all the modes are just the pentatonic with added notes to fill it out. If you master the pentatonic in all scales and positions, learning modes will be alot quicker and easier. Hope that helps

Not a knock, but is there a lesson posted that deals with dorian in a more familiar "shape", a position that's not a stretch position, one that's just a fleshed out pentatonic "box"? A lot of times the footage I see of rock players has them playing in the familiar stock pentatonic boxes where all the familiar blues licks lie, and they just end up resolving on a Dorian note. I don't see Allmann or Santana playing the "stretch" positions often. I only ask because I've tried & stretches didn't work

I have...LSD can and does alter blood sugar levels, cause fever, altered heart rate, perspiration, weakness, tremors, dizzyness, skin rash, pupil dilation, increased mucus/saliva production, euphoria,jaw clenching, etc.Also, you could not accurately reproduce the visual and auditory hallucinations through meditation. No way. Do your research!

Its the most BASIC of music theory there. Eb E b3 3 E flat is the flat 3rd of that pitch collection. And the symbol for a flatted note is "b" and since they're both some type of "E" note, that means they're some type of 3rd. Minor or major, they're both 3's in that collection of pitches. Just to clarify.

what's not to get? It's a relatively simply progression so as long as you can get the rhythm down. I think the strumming part would be the most cumbersome part. Those are some easy and useful to do know if you are looking for some colorful variations to music.

Basically, yes. "Jazz minor" is another name for the melodic minor. Same scale degrees. However, what we commonly refer to as "melodic minor" is really an ASCENDING melodic minor in traditional theory. The traditional m.m. scale raises the 6th and 7th when ascending, but lowers the 6th and 7th when descending, like a natural minor.

Hi patcatyak, there are four tension-notes in this scale,used in this situation 9-,9+,-13, 5- that sound interesting, also try using the concept of playing A minor pentatonic over F# 7(alt) there you get the 7 and these alterations(5 notes in all=penta)In the beginning it sounds more abstract,but once you get the sound in your ears,quite interesting.
