Reply to Tianshou88 Oct 20, 2008 not only is the guitar right handed, she's playing it upside down.... it's not been re-strung... but the thickest string is on the bottom - where it would normally be on the top. If you know your chords at all, you can see that her chord positions are upside down. truly amazing....

I have contact with them and as an old Blues Lover from Sweden, it's fantastic to have these friends, cause the first fingerpicking tune I picked up from record in the sixties, was just Freight Train by E Cotten, and my mission here on youtube is to keep the old blues and gospel alive. Perhaps and I think you are right, but her real trademark is, she does it so simple so it's hard to copy. Another aspect is she hold and play the guitar "backwards". Your blessed Great Grandmother's song was one of the first songs I learned to pick almost 40years ago. What a classic ! When I was 7 this song was on the airways. I lived near to a railway line that conveyed coal from the top of the Ebbw valley in South Wales down to Newport town,where it would be shipped all over the world. Sometimes I would go with my brother and sister to see the trains passing through. We waved to the driver and guardsman.We would come away singing 'freight train'. Fab to know who wrote this song. Bless her and the miners who slaved so hard.

No, Les Paul sure didn't invent the electric guitar. Not much invention there anyway...just put a mic (pickup) in an acoustic. But Les Paul did build one of the first solid body guitars, trying to get around...feedback. "In 1941, Paul designed and built one of the first solid-body electric guitars (though Leo Fender also independently created his own solid-body electric guitar around the same time, and Adolph Rickenbacher had marketed a solid-body guitar in the 30s)." Les Paul had all his fingers. He was in a car accident and injured his right (picking) elbow, and it was basically bolted at the proper angle to play his guitar. That might what you're referring to. "After the crash, doctors told Paul that they'd have to set his arm such that he would not be able to bend it again. He had them position his arm at a ninety degree angle so he could still play guitar". (From Wikipedia)

I knew this woman and she was the sweetest person ever. I was a young guitar player studying under my guitar teacher and he was great friends with her. I remember waiting for my teacher to start teaching me one day and I was reading his guitar player magazines he had on his table and noticed the mailing label said Elizabeth Cotten and her address. I think the greatest thing about her was she kept up on current guitar players and had Guitar World, guitar player magazines.

I haven't seen the new signals in action, but as far as I know, CN has all of their bells along this subdivision to ring at least until gate rise. There's a possibility that it may be set to ring the entire time the signal is active as well. I haven't seen (heard) any that cut off immediately after the gate lowers.

This place is a great wave, and the actual power of the wave isn't too heavy. It's not like backdoor or anything. Nonetheless, the reef is unforgiving. Ate it out there on a 4 footer and got my knee shoved into the reef. Left the water with a chunk out of my knee and I still got a fatty scar. That older guy that rides the long board seems to be the alpha male out there-he gets all the gems and rides the barrel pretty good for someone his age.Mucho drop-ins.
