No problem, 97'. I think Stone's 100 list was more of a popularity contest than a fair evaluation of great players. Notably excluded was: Mike Hampton, Ernie Isley, Eric Johnson. (Angus Young and David Gilmour came in at #'s 96 and 88,respectively?) Eddie Hazel was listed at #43, but they put a picture of Gary Shider next to his name. Gotta love Rolling Stone, huh. Peace

No - Frusciante and these guys were influenced by Jimi Hendrix - the intro riff is a rip off of a song called "Who knows" which is written by Jimi Hendrix. A lot of the arpeggios and triplets are also a rip off of Jimi's woodstock improvisations on Fire and Voo Doo Child. Frusciante knew how to play almost all of Jimi's songs at age 12 so it's all about Jimi influencing everybody, not these guys influencing anyone. They're still fucking awesome tho!!! :)

I saw Funkadelic the summer of 1975 in Louisiana, they were there with War who was the headline act who was on their 'why can't we be friends tour'. Funkadelic smoked them, Michael Hampton had recently replaced Eddie and was burnin. He kept the Funk rollin 4 sho, back then their act was purely hard core.

Yep EEKABOSTATIC, J5 did this one on either their debut album or maybe it was ABC. I know it was one of their first albums. And yes, they did trade off vocals between them too. Sly was the first to start that where the vocals bounce between members, and as you know, in 1968-73, Sly was one of the leading musical innovators! RARE EARTH, who had a smash in 1970 with the Temps "Get Ready", also covered this.

This song was actually covered by Motown acts "Rare Earth" and "The Jackson 5" both in 1970. George Clinton did a stint as as writer for Motown back when he was peddling "The Parliaments" 1967 classic "I Just Wanna Testify". Berry Gordy never signed the group, but George got close enough to learn alot about the business from their organization which would later serve him very well!

my only recommendation, see them in Washington, DC. 1st concert I saw them in DC was 4.5 hours. They followed, I mean blended into Maggot brain during the transition. George Clinton, didn't come out until about 2 hours into the show. UnFuKing Real. They tease about this year being the last so, my recommendation, see them if you can.
