The arc that this opening is based off of is when Okita goes on a killing rampage and starts killing Shinsengumi members on the fly. That and the fact most of the arc actually takes place during night/cloudy weather which would fit the song pretty well since the title of the song I'm pretty sure is either translated to "Downpour" or "Rainy Weather".

no no No! I love Gintama from what I've seen. Based on what I've seen, which is a guy snorting Mayonaise, a horrible grasp of the english langusge and Kasura & Elizabeth (best unknown creature evar) I'm observing that this song is an odd choice for the anime! Gintama rox! This song rox! Perhaps that's why they decided to stick them together. I just made the observation that a comedy might be better suited to a comedic opening, visually and acustically. . . . kono yaro
