Groucho was unquestionably one of the great wits of the twentieth century. He was always one or two steps ahead of the opposition. For him every line was a feed-line," no matter how ordinary it was. And the speed of the man! Brilliant little clip!
By: amberlights1. on 07 Sep 08, 05:27:56
Changvang16, what did she say about Groucho? He could be very cruel with the things he said....I've read he wasn't all that nice, where Harpo was very sweet.
By: bullcur. on 06 Sep 08, 23:20:18
Groucho the real thing.NOT a "Hollywood Invention" like these MINDLESS so-called entertainers of today, who "Entertain" a MINDLESS Low-standard audience. If Groucho and those of his era,NEVER existed today and tried success, they'd be thrown out of the Business!

"The one, the only, Groucho Marx!" My grandfather loved Groucho as I remember him laughing out loud in the den as it was being broadcast live in the late 50's and early 60'son a black and white TV. He was perhaps the consumate natural wit and a comedic genius. He coult make a joke out of ANYTHING! If the guy's name was Joe Brown, he could make a joke about it. Sheer genius. He will not be replaced.

That's Nola alright.... Instantly! Unbelievable.

Best Wit of all time!
By: ftblrg. on 20 Jul 08, 03:34:50
Yeah, Chico was the "chicken chaser" of the brothers. Harpo was the most loyal to his wife, actually, and was married to his wife for many many years and adopted children.
By: xhellonhighheels69x. on 18 Jul 08, 18:47:58
lol no worries the shyster talk bit was the best! "I wanted to get a writ of habeas corpus but I should've gotten a writ of you instead." :D~
By: pa20002000. on 18 Jul 08, 11:44:55
Yeah ...I'm not sure how late it was when I wrote that ...I meant Chico..haha - I guess anyone can say that ;>
By: xhellonhighheels69x. on 18 Jul 08, 05:33:45
actually Chico was the womanizing one, in fact they called him that because he had a way with "chicks". :D~
By: pa20002000. on 07 Jul 08, 17:09:23
But Harpo was the biggest womanizer of the brothers - perhaps he was turning on his charm to her. I believe it was Harpo, when caught kissing another woman behind stage by his wife, that said non-plussed that he "wasn't kissing her" - he was just "whispering in her mouth" - lol - lovely "gentleman :>
By: pa20002000. on 07 Jul 08, 17:05:36
I would have loved to have seen them reach this sort of speed on live TV....

This is why Groucho was Groucho. Nobody was wittier and quicker and more hilarious on the fly. Nobody.
By: changvang16. on 31 Mar 08, 18:20:09
I know an elderly lady whose husband was an announcer for NBC. She knew all the radio stars and had Groucho at her house, much to her disgust. She had nothing good to say about Groucho but she said Harpo was the nicest gentlemen she ever met.
By: keppel21. on 24 Mar 08, 10:05:54
I agree he was so talented, so quick. This piece was typical of his amazing talent to turn any situation around and make people laugh. A true genius. Some of his skits I've seen that many times, but I still enjoy them just as much. Even though this show was now over 50 years old, it still works today. One of real favourites.
