Well, I actually prefer also their versions live, it's one of the reasons I love them so much, the fact I enjoy their live sets even more than their recorded versions. I adore Nirvana, but they were alternative. Again, to compare alternative approach to mainstream is just impossible to me, like comparing soul to rap, punk with powerpop... I enjoy all beside heavy metal (I don't like it but I know it's valuable: it's just that it doesn't fit my sensitivity). Ur Ars Moriend is quite nice, too.

Really: back off. Your music taste just don't encompass class. Fine. But luckely mine does, so on Maroon we're never gonna agree. I love them, and you don't get them. Is it a problem for any of us? The Beatles did more than that structure. Just listen the b-side of Abbey Road.They didn´t use the same structure ALWAYS.Pure imagination is a poor cover and woman... I just don´t like it, but it´s my opinion. Estradasphere, Fantômas, Moonchild...This bands doesn´t use chorus. And the two last ones doesn´t have influences. They are pure imagination and creativity. And with Estradasphere and Mr.Bungle I can say all the elements. Rock,folk,electro,jazz,Metal,pop,jewish..

The verse chorus bridge structure is what define popular music since the Beatles and even previously. Are you into alternative? Fine. But also those use the same structure, although flippin it: it's about musical choices to fit into one or another branch of music, anyway. Maroon 5 use elements of rock, pop, folk, R'n'B, neo-soul, powerpop, with bits of electro sound (listen to their Pure Imagination or Woman) They have an enormous musical palette, to deny it is just blind. They're huge CLASS.

You must listen to experimental music to see something different. This kind of music is boring. Is always the same. No I can't honestly say that I have. As a classically trained singer there is a lack of the breathiness in her voice which is often present in other singers. This gives her voice an almost bell like clarity. I think that it may be this aspect of her voice which makes some people prefer softer renditions. Haley does it forme though.

This not Irish Music. It is English music. I am 73 and I heard this sung many times by English folk singers when I was a boy. I sang it in the school choir when I was ten or eleven. This version is sung with Irish instrumental accompaniment by a New Zealander named Hayley Westenra. Simon and Garfunkle were certainly not the first people to record this.

Wikipedia has a detailed history of this old english ballad which possibly owes its origins to an even older scottish ballad called "The Elfin Knight". You will also find that S & G were introduced to the ballad by english folk songer Martin Carthy as incidentally was Bob Dylan.
