As much as I like Sutherland in this role, I have now listened and fell in love with this rendition. My all time favourite. Thank you for sharing this gem. Other sopranos like Dessya should not even attempt this piece, as they are not equiped to meet the challenge of the role.

I grown up with Hallstein but this is the heaven!!!!! And for me this aria is from her sung in all the best ways that are possible to interprete! Why? She sounds lyric, her tones are never harsh or to boring, and her high register is----- waving over the line the coloraturas are fresh --- this is (for me) correct. But I do like Moser and Deutecom too... Gruberova impossible for taht! This aria is not Donizetti! This is an Sonntagsstück...... BRAVA HALLSTEIN!!!!

I'm not the biggest fan of the voice, but there are some really nice trills there. And I'm confident, in the lead-up to those final passages, that she'll get the Gs. And she does, fairly well. That woman had a good concept of head voice.

Hallstein is indeed one of the greatest singers EVER, always so poetic and boldly creative...(remember the Lakmé aria). Her technique is so perfect she almost sounds like DANCING the aria, with exquisite sprezzatura.Very few singers can produce the sound that way nowodays. It takes years of study and patience to produce a Bel Canto sound. It's craftmanship. Not screaming in the way so many do today. BALANCE is a great virtue of true Bel Canto.Ja, sie singt wie eine Balleteuse.Big Brava!!!!!!!!!!

Ja, muss ich gestehen, obwohl ich die Operette auch sehr liebe und sie mir natürlich Willkommen war in dieser Sparte, sah man sie in Opern leider selten.Gut, dass es in dieser Richtung CDs von ihr gibt. Das "mio babbino caro" z.B., eines meiner Lieblingslieder, singt sie einfach faszinierend.

Schade nur, dass sie immer in die "Operetten-Schublade" gesteckt wurde und sich keinen großen Namen als Opernsängerin gemacht hat. Hier ist sie wirklich großartig und vollbringt eine der stilistisch überzeugendsten Interpretationen von Prochs Variationen!
