Theres also a psychological factor as well. If an indian comes to the states, they would follow what others are doing so if everybody stops at a crossing, then they will likely stop. Ever notice how when one person does something (like cross the tracks when the gates are down) someone else follows them thinking "well, they are doing it so it must be ok" and soon everybody plays "follow the leader"?. Same logic applies.

You can't really blame them. Most crossing gates there lower about FIVE - TEN MINUTES before the train comes. If that happened in the US, there will be a lot of people doing the same thing. THe fault lies in the people who built the crossing gates. THey need to fix the timer / sensor on the tracks.

Actually, there were three CBS shows that crossed over with each other in that era - Beverly Hillbillies crossed over with Green Acres and Petticoat Junction. Green Acres and Petticoat Junction were set in the same town, Hooterville, so they crossed over far more than the Beverly Hillbillies, who were supposed to originally be from the same area.

Barrister2u: The water is used to MAKE the steam that powers the locomotive, not just to cool the boiler! However, if the crown sheet (the bottom surface of the boiler) is allowed to go dry, it will weaken and WILL allow a powerful (and deadly) explosion to happen. This particular loco was wood-fired, as you can see by the "balloon" smokestack, which was designed to reduce flying sparks, which could catch fire to trackside brush. Oil & coal-fired locos used a straight smokestack.

This isn't Glenn Miller. It's from the sound track of the 1953 movie'Glenn Miller Story' featuring the Universal International Studio band. Note the slight dip in the sound @ 1'20when the picture cuts to June Alyson walking in the 'lot' towards the sound stage and stops outside when she sees the red light. Trombonist Paul Tanner who played in Miller's civilian band, actually appeared in the picture as a member of the Band.

I agree- absolutely brilliant! But some quirk (maybe the fact that I love this song) leads me to point out that the song was written by Erskine Hawkins, not Glenn Miller. With lyrics by Buddy Feyne, written later at the behest of the publisher. Credit where due, doncha know?

I'm not trying to sound like an asshole but this really isn't holding on to their culture. It's evolved into live (which is music) bhangra. Their moves aren't very traditional either. They never use kato, sups, or khunda unless it's for a stunt. They're an entertaining team that's it.

this is freestyle.. obviously if the competitions require to do only folk say dhamaal, or jhumar, then that is what u will deliver.. since there is no specificity in the genre they perform according to their style.. fine u might still think this is not proper bhangra but they have the potential to compete w/ dancers in India..

yeah I agree with you that mainstream now doesn't embrace those with talent. But this was mainstream in the 60's, mainly because it was fresh and years ahead of it's time. I am not a huge john frusciante fan, I like what he's doing but he copied a lot of people. It's ok to copy people in my opinion if you make it better than it was. Jimi copied bb king, clapton, and countless others and he brought it to new levels. There is nothing unique imo about John Frusciane, he is creative tho.
