Glad to see they've got some of the old J.G, Brill kit cars still running in Lisbon. Controllers have been updated since I was there. Funny, I rode around the trolleys (I'd not call them trams only because they're of US modelling) for five days and didn't have trouble once. When I was there they had 2 restored charter cars dating from the 1890s. Management said they were seldom used, but we saw them on line three times while we were there. They seem quieter. I wonder if they changed bogies too?

if you are judging a country by GDP/Population then you would conclude countries like norway, switzerland, luxembourg, japan etc as most desireable to live in. i cant remember which is number one. but portugal has the lowest suicide rate in europe and has better weather than northern european countries. i haven't been there but i can admire it. I voted No to Lisbon for the following reasons: 1. I do not want to be part of a European superstate with it's own Army, Flag and President. 2. The reason for Ireland's prosperity in recent years is because of our low taxes and free market policies. The EU is trying to build a Command Economy which is run from an undemocratic centre. 3. 90% of the 40bn Ireland has 'recieived' since '73 has gone on CAP payments to farmers - Ireland now imports 75% of its food and 80% of it's fish. We visited Lisbon by rail from Cascais and found that Lisbon was a great city with shopping in their mostly mom & pop stores. There are a lot of Historical sites to see like; Monastery of Jeronimos, Monument to the Age of Discovery, St. George's Castle and the Presidential Palace. The 25th of April Bridge named after Portugal's Revolt on the 25th of April 1974
