what are you on about, prods only came about about 1000 years after catholicism by a catholic monk, it never became mainstream either till 18th century and was only big in Britain and holland, 70% of europe is catholic as catholicism is majority everywhere else especially in mine. Most prods emmigrated to america as catholic countries owned europe

I'm American, and for years, I thought Van was a Black singer. I think that he adapts his accent very well, although I love to hear him talk in his native accent. It's easy to base your opinion on the way someone sounds, but, as I've found, it is much better to do a little research and know what you're talking about rather than just blurting out the first thing you think. yea, he did live near ther in the mid 90's - but his ancestors are of scottish decent- the "irish poet' commentary was due to the fact THEY kept calling him that - it was kind of an inside joke at the time- He makes SOUL records and r & B too but it does not make his heritage or decent BLACK or African... his accent is semi belfast- American-- unless he is doing a wind up...

Insult to him? Why then did he do an album with The Chieftains, and describe himself as 'An Irish Poet' in Dublin (video here in youtube). I think he must have lived in Dublin for while because he has a kind of accent a bit like North of the Liffey.

Sure these song versions are indeed excellent (though on his own website the volume is so low, even when I turn it up I can't really hear it). And his website is kind of sticky when the videos play... stop/start/stop/start... I give him credit. He is in better voice than ever, but I also curse him for destroying fans' websites that were up and running for 10 years and served as resource for his fans. I love Van. Have for years. It's interesting to wonder what would have happened with JIm Morrison if he hadn't destroyed himself at such a young age. Don't think he would have been tuff enuff or commited enuff to have had the tremendously successful career that Van has had. How many beautiful songs has the guy written?

Meck one thing I'll agree with you is that yes some artist/bands do want to pick up a paycheck but those are your "I was a star 30-40 years ago doing a reunion oldies tour" They didn't make the millions like they do now. Is it a line on steady line of income for them so they don't have to do a regular boring 9-5 job? Yes. Where I differ with you is: Would they or even this case Van Morrison who has been doing it for 45+ years do it if they didn't like performing for their crowds? NO WAY.

Anyone who has written and performed for over 45+ years couldn't do it if they didn't love their fans. Van clearly loves the music he writes and performing for his fans. Most bands/artists go on tour because they love the attention they get from their fans. They'll say "I'm/we're going to retire" but they are fooling themselves. Why do you see so many band/artists have a "2nd or more comeback tour?" Van will just go on touring and writing new songs until he can't do it anymore.

I've seen him 4 times in the last year and a half, always worth the money, even if I have to go from central Montana to Nashville, Edmonton AB, CA; New York City (2Xs). I only buy up front seats, which if you belong to his free online fan club you can buy tickets before the public by two weeks, I think. I can't wait to see him again. This new CD was supposedly the first he's written all of the songs for the one CD only and also supposedly after recently going sober. Whatever it is, I like it.

I can't think of any recording artists, except for the 1950's Chicago blues cats, who have had so much of their early material repackaged so shoddily and indiscriminately as Van Morrison. I recall in the 1970's you could buy 3 different versions of "Blowin' Your Mind" in supermarkets for $1.99! So it's no wonder he's so protective of his hard earned works. Wouldn't you rather hear this beautiful soundboard quality material then some ones crappy cellphone video? IMHO DannyB
