Swinton insurance rang me the other day about my current insurance on my Yamaha XJ900...i mentioned the Y2K and they said someone rang for a quote on the Y2K and the insured it.!!..unsure how much it cost. It'd be gr8 to fire it up when i'm on a 7am start at work and wake everyone up where i live.

Wish I lived in san jose right now id be able to ride right now, kinda to cold right now to ride the bike up here..... but the most bikes i have ever seen was at a local fire hall on there weekend breakfast there was maybe a 1000 bikes there, did see a couple busa's but now 14 there though.....

I'll check out the specs sometime, but I did not know the 08 bussa added cc's though and did not know the bussa had reclaimed the fastest production bike trophy, my bad. But I gotta argue with the point of the 08 ZXR 14 being an ugly bike though I rode with one on saturday and though that bike looked pretty good though, there was a pack of about 12 or 13 cant remember and that thing outta all of us fit right in looks wise. we all had cbr 600's 1000's or GSXR 750's. there was a single r6

from the time the 14 came out to 2007 you would be right.the 2008 hayabusa increased cc ad takes back the crown in 2008,sorry,ckeck the specs.difference was under a 1/2 sec.not anymore,as for rider size,skill,what have you,the bikes are tested by the same rider making the rider himself a mute point.And anyways the 14 is a butt ugly bike.

or the Buell 1125R... Speed is it's greatest strength but they're not the best handling bikes on the roads. There are quite a bit of those running around here, and I've seen quite a bit of them run off the road when the rider tried to take a corner too fast.

I agree to a point with fatty. I have a cbr600 that I have given to my girlfriend since I moved to a busa last year. The hayabusa can and will corner but not without far more effort on the riders' part. The cbr just does it easier. This is where you need good tires. Especially on the 'busa.

To anyone who's interested, buy a Ural, not a Chiang Jiang. The Russian bikes are OHV, have an alternator, and electric start. Chiang Jiangs have half the horsepower due to being flatheads, have a magneto, and are kick only. The Chinese have not updated the bike from the original BMW design from the 30's, the Russians have.

My brother and I inherited my dad's Gear Up, and now, my brother is looking to sell his Honda CBR so he's got more time to ride the Ural. It gets looks and smiles everywhere we ride it. Also, it is hell for tough, it sat outside, under a cover, all winter, and still started right up in May.

You can't make a cruiser based V-twin that can compete with a sportbike, Ducati uses a V-twin in their bikes, but sportbikes are engineered completely differently that cruisers. If you want a smooth ride with lots of low end torque, you want a cruiser, if you want shitloads of horsepower on something that is BUILT to redline, you want a sportbike. They're 2 different demographics man, there is no overlap. But HD owns Buell and MV Augusta, those are the companies to compete with Japanese bikes.

I always find it funny that people bust on Harley because of performance. Of course a sportbike will smoke a cruiser, but as far as cruisers go HD is at the top of the fucking heap! the Fatboy won Cycleworld's best cruiser of 07, and the Sportster beat out a Ducati and a Triumph there too. In case you think Cycleworld is Harleycentric, pick up a copy sometime, it's all sportbikes. As for reliability, belt driven, rubber mounted engine and EFI nowadays. They're much more reliable than before.

the problem with Jap superbikes owners is that most dnt know how to ride around corners, they're are only good at cracking the throttle. means the guy that has learnt the art of flowing high corner speed, even on something like a Ducati Monster, or Harley 1200 will destroy them in the corners - i do it every wknd. plus Jap bikes are a bit whitetrash for those in the US and a bit Chav for those in the UK. if you have a bit of taste and class you'll buy Italian or Harley, not some ugly Asian shit

The reason it's 7.5secs is because thats what it DID when it came out in 1969, the bottom end wasn't to good. - Theres been many different versions since the more resent CB750 for instance does 0-60 in 4 seconds, (not speedo indicated, TRUE 0-60)

They also make the CB250 Nighthawk. It's a wretched little bike, but at least it's exciting to ride....because of the pathetic drum front brake and limp noodle forks. I'm with you on the ever increasing size, a 900lb motorcycle is not much fun in curves or parking lots, but they sell pretty well. I'd take any nice CB750 over most new cruisers myself. Too bad my CB750 had its forks pushed through the headers by a lady in a Mustang. ;(

Nice bike. Unfortunately, bikes have gotten bigger and bigger....too big really. Cost, fuel consumption, weight, insurance all go up as well. The Honda 350 was also a great bike. I love my 250 cc bikes and wouldn't own anything over 350. Unfortunately Honda only makes 1 road bike at 250...the Rebel. The entire industry has failed to recognize the popularity of 250 through 350-size bikes, so they are stuck with sluggish sales of their hogs. No thanks.

No, but the current supersports are essentially a further development of the original CB750 formula, albeit with more of a track focus. Dick Mann won at Daytona with a CB750 DESPITE the fact it wasn't intended as a racing bike. A 750F could outaccelerate a new EX500, and with modern tires give it a run on a track, but an EX500 isn't exactly a superbike.

Kawasaki had virtually NO BUDGET when they tested and raced the Z1, unlike Honda. But, in spite of this, along with a very flimsy chassis, brakes, and tires of the era...the massive power delivered by the KZs, and the skills of the riders overcame all of that. Just a cool underdog story. I love, I mean LOVE the old Hondas, but Kawasakis are a little different. They are like the old Mopars, giant, abusurdly powerful engine, lots of edge to them, very obnoxious. Kawasakis have lots of soul.

But the best thing about the Honda Four in Australia was you could actually ride through our, then remote, undfed populated and dodgy roads with reliability, something we had never experience with English bikes, and shitbox shovelheads all of a sudden you could go on a run without caring tons tools and fencing wire, locktite and gasket goo! The K series were muck better to ride, motors vertually the same, except the "F" series wouldn't throw the rear chain at 100MPH! (very common with Honda 4'thats why they changed the centre of gravity, Super Sports frame, changed the feel of the ride, well some might like their nuts on the tank, I sure don't and this leaves a large space on the back end of the bike with no weight over the rear end..though it does leave room to on the seat to thriple!

The honda cub can definitely take a beating, but a bent wheel just makes it completely impractical to ride. I would say it's almost indestructable. Maybe with those aluminum/steel alloy wheels they make nowadays it could have survived the fall AND still ran straight.

That's a common suspicion if you've never ridden, but proper riding gear, practice, and (most importantly) common sense can remove the 'toast' factor. If this young gent went down in the grass at this speed the most that would suffer would be his pride...for as long as it took for his determination to put him back in the saddle. The most important thing to remember: don't try to out-ride your skills. Practice and learn properly as this young man is doing. Cheaper? Yes. Fun? Oh, hell yes!

i got a question for people who know about 916, 996 and 998: how much faster is the 996 than the 916 and how much faster is the 988 than the other two? i want on of these three bikes (they look pretty much the same right? or am i wrong?) and my 1st choice is the tru original 916, but if any of the other two are at all significantly faster, id go for the faster one. and no, i do not have a chance to test ride them cause those bikes have to be shipped to where i live

Um, no. Remember, the VFR engine dates from the early 1980s, not exactly cutting-edge stuff. A nice engine, but very old in the sportbike world...and ancient in race circles. I agree with everything you say in this post. No arguments here. I think a better series would be this: 500cc/320 lbs. limit...no other limis. Two-strokes, v-twins, inline fours, v-fours, parallel twins, etc. It would leave more room for innovation, and with less power, more talent would be needed to win. Awesomeness.

I thought honda would have been much better from the start due to the fact they have already built and experimented with the vfr 800. Im sure lowering the cc gave ducati the power advantage with desmo's. I have heard talk about rossi and stoner wanting the return of the 990's. I think we would get much closer racing again if they did. I believe ducati's reliability in the past was due to companies where they got their components from. I would say the honda are more road orientated in general.

Honda is the company with the most money to spend. Id say ducati's best sucess is in world superbikes. Even when colin edwards won, they still said the ducati was the better machine. In Moto gp lately honda isnt doing so well. Rossi on yamaha and stoner on ducati seem to be at the front. The bikes no matter how good need brilliant riders and vica verca. I think its the desmodromics which cause the ducati to be so dam fast in motogp. Honda got most of there money by selling c90's.

Im not saying a twin makes more power than a four for its cc but I know a twin that will beat a four on the straight and thats a norton rotary. 588cc and it is mega fast due to its wankel(rotary engine). I wouldnt say the fours are the fastest on track. I know they faster but some of there speed is due to the rules. If you removed the restrictors off the current wsb 1098 then it would leave the fours behind on the straghts. Really its about making things even. Also the weight penalties were added to the 1098. The 998 has lapped faster than the motogp bikes at donnington in the past. If a twin can make enough power under the rules then its friendier better power delivery and handling can win

I will agree with this to a point: sure, any monkey can go fast in a straight line(squids) on a GSXR, but on the track, the fours own them all (both riders having the same skill level). Even Ducati uses a V4 now in MotoGP...that should tell you who taught who a little something on the track...

Ducati used to be a poor company and never had such good quality components as they do today. Ducati are engineers that have different ideas to the japanese. Japanese used to make as much power as they could get until ducati taut them a few lessons in racing. I own a ducati and believe me, when im out riding i find most riders are not so good at cornering but go fast in a straightline. My ducati has taut me how to ride better and I am a much better rider than i used to be.

aerodynamics are more important when you start going fast! 2004 Yamaha R1 had 173 horsepower and a top speed of 184 miles per hour. So, why could the Hayabusa, with only two more horsepower, reach 200 miles per hour? my guess is it was much more aerodynamic, my 2nd guess is the big 4's voluntary speed limit on all bike's from the factory
