i see how you got that conclusion bro, and i agree with you in some cases, But pete rock is truely amazing at what he does. Sampling is alot harder then it looks/seems/sounds. I been in music all my life and just got into sampling recently, i thought it was gonna be all simple and easy, but its more to the art then just taking a loop and putting drums over it. Making music regardless if it is sampling or not takes a creative ability that not everybody has. He is doing something amazing. Dude has been making hits for years. I never did and never will care about HOW a beat is done nor the tricks and different techniques. All I care about is good music. How I use an MPC could be considered "simple" and that doesn't bother me ONE BIT lol. As long as I can make music that people can feel... and most importantly.. ARTISTS CAN DO SONGS TO. Just from a pure SPECS point of view, the 5000 doesn't stand up to the 4000. Its not about LEARNING how to use the 5000, it simply is a waste of money compared to the 4000 which is upgradeable to 512mb vs the 5000s 192mb, and the lower audio fidelity of the 5000 16-bit/44mhz vs 24-bit/96mhz with the 4000. The forums are accurate this time around, DON'T BUY THE 5000, find a second hand 4000!

Its BS, like you look at the MPC 1000 its built like a fisher price toy and goes for $1000!!! I make beats with an sp-404 and old school akai rackmount gear like s-950 and s-1000, only cuz their like 150 used lol. I'd love to own an MPC 2500 or MPC 4000 but I'd have to jack someone to get it. depending on your style, once you purchase any of the mpc's, you always have the options to expand. Most producers i know of, dont add anything else when they have their mpc. They just use records to sample off of, and thats it. I for one like the midi capabilities of the mpc, but with the 5000, the ui and work flow changed so drastically, it really made the efforts more of an obstacle. I really hope they fix some of these issues soon.

THis looks and sounds easy but with those old samplers its very time consuming and technical. Alot of old hip hop and dance music was made on those things. Now its done with computer programs.

I dunno the source but you can emulate that vowel-like sound pretty easily. There's a vsti in FL studio called "Buzz Generator Adapter" with a preset called "rectal anarchy" that emulates those sounds. it has a cool setting that can morph between all the vowels that i use a lot. a lot of other synths have vowel-like sounds like that too

i haven't been listening to the back and forth bickerin thats goin on but music is an art form and sometimes people feel that they need to use a particular paintbrush, or a specific type of paint, or in this case an mpc, to create their art. Inspiration someties comes from the strangest things, and if the mpc inspires you then use it. If, as in your case it doesn't, then don't use it. It is subjective to say your beats are > than someone elses too.

The art of falling apart is an awesome album. And way ahead of it's time. And trust me Micky Finn was a giant at Kinetic in stoke late 80's here in the UK. Guess you had to be there!! his methods are still his methods.. he made the sounds and he used them to make a guitar solo.. he didnt say anywhere in the video that he was the first to try to create sounds using other sounds.. plus they were techno/house stars.. divinci is using a snare turned guitar to layer into hip hop beats.. he does great things with the mpc.. thats all! and micky finn? mickie finn from the 60's was more innovative... lol.. tainted love? simple beat machine.. simple synth *shrugs*
