they changed the names for this one. originally murnau was not allowed to use stoker's characters due to copyright violations. so he named the vampire "orlok" and the hero "hutter". but in this one they used stoker's names.

It says Dracula in the much later English credits only, just as it mentions Stoker which never appeared in the original, only after his widow had nearly succeeded to have all copies destroyd true, this is a later b/w French cut, the original is 'Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens', the count is Orlock Harker is Hutter Renfield is Knock & 'Mina' Nina is Ellen, it was never filmed as Dracula. This is aother purely English & only halfway accurate title translation & 10 min short. Nice share.

i rated this video simply because i have seen every vampire move made.sad to say interview with the vampire was my frist but the actors had done a good job at portraying the characters from the book.excellent movie.but this movie is the first and classic.the music goes so well and black and white makes it erie top ratings for count orlock!!!and thank you for putting this video up.

This is one of te best black and white horror movies I have ever seen!!! The movie is more scarier and the makeup for Count Orlock is amazing and music for each plot makes it more suspensful and thrilling haha!! Genuis!!

Creepy but i cant stop watching this movie!! it's soo cool! Did you know this movie was made without the permission from the Bram stoker Estate and the film crew were ordered to destroy the copies thankfully some were smuggled and the rest was history. hey maybe you can post the Bela Legosi version next i like him.

I bet this caused such a frightening sensation across the globe like war of the worlds....very creepy and atmospheric...the vampire very grotesque and the effect with the shadow is ingenious even when there was no technology....only the moon light and camera light to catch the eerie scenes...brilliant shocker that still causes a chill down the spine...and of course the music gives it even more knife edge feel..10 out of 10.

This is a very good film. Describing it is hard--it's like a horror art-film. Very moody almost like a dream. The score is haunting and the cinematography excellent. A lot of themes and sub themes in this movie add to its richness. A lot of symbolism in this movie too.

There is a rhythm, it's an odd time signature and an odd key signature, but they pushed the envelope and that's what makes them cool. The same poppish four beats and cheesy chord progressions get lame after a while. Yes, you should! The best scene of Delft (in my opinion) is when the ship arrives in the harbor and the rats start coming off the ship onto the streets of Delft by climbing down the ship's ropes.

P.S. also, in the short but quite interesting "on location" documentary you can see Ganz & Kinski and later Adjani all rehearsing in english... I do agree with you that in german sounds better, though.

to peymaania: funnily enough, it isn't dubbed - it was shot TWICE (don't ask why, no idea, search the google for a start); every scene was repeated twice, once in english and once in german (dutch actors were of course dubbed anyway), so if you have both versions, just play the Lucy/Nosferatu bathroom scenes and you'll notice in the german version a small error - a reflection of Kinski in the mirror, while in the english one Adjani did ok in covering him.

to satanel: yup, it's Gordela's version of traditional Georgian song, "Cinckaro" (or "Tsintskaro", depends on where you're from and how you say it). Just type for instance "zinskaro gonashvili" in the youtube's searchbox, and you'll hear an even better version by the late great Hamlet Gonashvili.

I think the problem is that it is dubbed into English. It should be in the Original German with Subtitles. The German Language suits this film much better.

Close but no banana. He's called Graf Orlock but graf is German for count. There's also no such word as Nosferatu, before Bram Stoker. He got it from Emily Gerard's Land Beyond the Forest, a book about Transylvanian legends. Apparently she heard something like the Greek Nosphorous (plague bringer), or the Romanian necurat/ unclean and nesuferit/insufferable.

That was an unfair comparison......"Nosferatu" was a SILENT FILM and the 1st screen incarnation of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula", and by far the best. Lugosi was an excellent Dracula, but this film shows him in a totally different way.....he's not a suave European, but a rat-faced emaciated century old corpse. Its all in the eye of the artist, my friend.

yea max shrek is freaky. when they were filming they picked him for the role because he was arrested before with attacking several men and trying to bite them. I was really surprised because i would think that he would try to do the same when they were filming
