@OboeMaster: His tone is awesome, and the way he uses it! I know of no oboist with such a mastery over dynamics. Much better than the dull and foggy sound many other soloists produce. Holliger's sound is maybe not good for playing a tear-jerker solo in a romantic symphony, but it's refreshing and beautiful.

yes i have. im not going to sit here and argue with you because its opinion but go get a ray still recording of him in his prime and tell me of somebody better than that. and if you knew him personally, you'd see how much of a genius he is. study up on the competitions ray has judged with holliger's students and i think youll change your mind.

did you? LOTS of people?? I wonder that, because Heinz Holliger is one of the top oboe players of last few decades..I heard him few years ago on prague spring and he was absolutely fantastic..I'd like to see the lots of oboe players with better tone tha he has

oh i love the oboe but it always seems to sound horrible on camera! i've been playing for a long time and i'm going to college for it! it was my first instument!! now i play the drums, bassoon, alto sax, clarinet, and flute!! hopefully i make into the professional world of music! if you wanna talk about oboes to tone quality or sheet music just message me! :D

i have a worse time with low D's squeaking, but oddly my low Bb's and low C's come out better. My teacher my oboe is just hard to play on since it's a student oboe.

the tone also depends on the condition of the reed. for instance, I have one reed that always plays in tune. its been used alot and is well broken in. no cracks, and the two halves of the reed are lined up perfectly. I have another reed made by the same person that I bought at exactly the same time as the other one. its like the first one, but the opening is too big, so it plays flat all the time. with practice, you can learn to play in tune, but as I said before, it takes practice.

try making sure there's no water in your oboe or reed. if theres water in your reed, blow out the water gently from the cork end. if there's water in your oboe, clean it out with a silk swab made for oboes. also, make sure your emboucher is good, and your reed isn't cracked :)

I really love your performance. I played violin a few years. Although my parents wanted me to be a violinist, I always wanted to learn oboe. I think its sound is so noble. I became to love oboe after listening this song ten years ago. I did not know the name of it. Now, I am so happy that I can find this song. There might be some bad comments here, but I want to say that this is impressive. I totally love it. Thank you for sharing your music!!!

I started on flute, then violin, and now im playing oboe. The fingerings on flute are much more similar to those of an oboe than those of a clarinet are. I recommend oboe. The flute is a good instrument, but competition is way fierce and there are just too many flutists XD

i would recommend oboe. i was classically trained on the flute and its a great instrument. but there are too many flute players out there & the competition is much more intense. if you are young, start with the clarinet so you can get used to a reed instrument and then upgrade to the oboeo.

Wow,this is really good. I play oboe,guitar,upright bass,flute,and piccolo. I'm the school's oboe/piccolo player now though. I play oboe during concert band. I've tried really hard with oboe,and I really love it. I went to honor band this year,but I made last chair. I'm completely self taught. I'm gonna get a teacher this summer though. :) May I ask you something?? Do your hands ever shake when you play?? And if they do,how do you stop them from shaking???lol -Kandy-

I recommend the oboe to all people. Yes i'll admit it's a difficult instrument to learn but with willpower it can be overcome and it's amazing how fast you can pick up and progress. i'm a piper and flute player and have been playing the oboe now for 5 years.

Dear yoadrian20, I don't know exactly what you clean your ears with, but as another professional oboe player I clearly recognize this as an Oboe with an "american" (long-scrape) reed. They've mixed his playing with a recording of the piece which includes a trumpet with unison with the oboe in all the tutti parts, because that's the way Bach wrote it. You'd have known that if you had recognized the piece (Brandenburg Concerto No.2, first movement)

No hay que negar que la música de Morriconi para la película La Mision, a mi juicio es la más hermosa que se haya escrito jamás para banda sonora. interpretacion. Todos los aves marias tienen la misma letra y han sido escritos en latin, pero el compositor moderno de este ave maría lo hizo claro mezclando guaraní y latin

Oboes sound amazing-- this thing sounds like a dying dog. I like most of this guy's stuff... but this one is just bad. The cucumber trumpet wasn't great either. Still amazing that he can do this sort of thing though. ~A proud bassoonist.

Hi, thanks for the nice comment. Reeds are tricky and need to be made to your specs. Most oboe / double reed instrument players make their own reeds. Buy a kit, take a few lessons and start making your own. If you are good at it try selling them to the store where you currently buy them. Have a great day.
