FJ is my absolute favorite track. Genre defining sound and possibly one of the most moving pieces of electronic music ever composed. Although if Chicane is your thing, I would recommend his mix of BT's 'Flaming June' over PvD's.

The question is, what has the world come to when the likes of Tiesto becomes No.1 DJ numerous times?? The reason is because its not about musical integrity as much as it is about popularity. And half the new world ravers must either be tone deaf or just plain ignorant of much of the real quality music that has existed before them. Like this track, long version, and also the Ambient Mix. Having said that, Tiesto is capable of playing amazing sets, as I was witness to one in Beijing this year!

i agree, this is what most trance should be. i don't like how people who listen to too much britney spears and lil wayne just steps right in after hearing some crappy dance stuff and think that tiesto is the trance stuff when they obviously know nothing.

Well obviously you're not going to get up and jam to Chicane (except for Saltwater and a few others)... that's not what their music is about. Chicane is emotional and melodic. You're a Science and Power kinda guy and Chicane is a Karma kind of artist. Nothing wrong with that.

whatever, im not a huge fan of chicane. saltwater is his only decent song in my opinion. far too boring. you hear guys like van buuren, sasha, tiesto who have really good songs for partying while chicane has songs that are designed for being on an elevator.

Even as an Obama supporter, I would like to see more compromise on this. Oil is inelastic, our entire infrastructure, cars, food, cosmetics, plastic, all circulate around oil. If republicans say we need to drill how would any public official be against the use it or loose it plan so oil companies would have to drill on land they currently have or they loose it (since the alleged issue is access to more areas to drill, why not agree to use current areas of oil or let them go if nothing is there?). However, winds are steadier offshore, so the capacity factor can be about twice as high as on land. The big wind turbines cost more than a million dollars apiece, but the bigger ones have a lower cost per watt produced. Wind power has become more economical as the wind turbines have gotten larger. Several reasons: 1 - Position for the next buoy 2 - "Foamy" water (either side of the propeller wash, where water isn't being pushed backwards) offers more air to water ration, hence less friction. 3 - He might have thought he was slip-streaming (like in F1), but the problem is that the curve of the air behind the boat takes a turn skywards at a certain distance behind the boat, due to the low pressure behind the boat sucking air down, which then "bounces" back up, causing their lift of the bow.

The offshore drilling rigs that are out in the gulf really make for an interesting environment with the horns that go off each moment or so. You can hear it in this video. Wonder if thats a good area to fish... anybody know?

Alain Gautier and Mich. desjoyeaux frolicking in Biscay prior to 1999 TJV. They capsized shortly after the start. There is nothing in offshore sailing that comes close to these boats. Too 'hairy' for most.

I have been diving since 1977. The statement that "Scuba divers are extremely reverent about such things" is absurd. A dive shop in Charleston took the bones out of a U-boat, and sold them in the display case in their shop. They sold out quickly. A skull and $6,000 pair of German binoculars in the living room is just way too cool for many to resist. Right now divers are pillaging Mush Morton's recently found Submarine in the Marianas, to the dismay the families and the US Navy. Spare us the Pap.

Im not saying it is or isnt alright to dive in there. For one, only the most experienced divers can penetrate the sub, so it is not like they are on display. Scuba divers are extremely reverent about such things. Those who have the abilities to penetrate the sub are careful to be respectful to those who died there. Scuba divers have a special understanding and respect of those who rest forever in the deep. We are not desecrating their remains.

yes, the sub remains their grave. There are certain compartments you can enter to see the remains, but it is extremely dangerous to do so.

Himdarling- It should be clarified that although Dönitz was found guilty of waging unrestricted submarine warfare, his sentence was conspicuously not carried out, based on evidence of similar British orders, and testimony by Admiral Nimitz as well as supportive statements from several American sub captains saying we did the exact same thing.

Himdarling44, Help me look for the video interview of the Brit nurse that was on the Laconia and in one of the lifeboats. War sometimes brings out the best in people, friend and foe alike. The Laconia incident shows that during those three days it also brought out the worst in some people. May they rest in peace!

Also after the war in Nuremburg, while the war trials were going on. Admiral Doenitz was found guilty of war crimes for giving the order to abandon survivors, when the U.S. caused him to give the order. Also during the rescue attempt of the Laconia, several Italian subs also helped out.

karlpohl, you are only half right on the survivors procedure for U-boats. For the first few years of the war, German U-Boats would often just rise up out of the water and ask the commander to politely sink his ship. Most often they complied. The survivors were allowed into lifeboats. Admiral Doenitz encouraged commanders of U-boats to help survivors for the first part of the war. Only after the "Laconia Incident" did the order to abandon all survivors go into effect.

steponitbill, I think I have it in my DVD collection but with our short summers up here in Canada I won't have time to look for that interview now. Nobody can blame the B-24 pilot for what happened. He was wery reluctant to attack this maritime Choo-choo train of U-boats and life rafts. A smart base commander would have ended up with three U-Boats for the allies to study if the USAF would have shephearded them into Spain or even Gibraltar and intern the crews until the end of the war.

The ship that was attacked by U-156 was the RMS Laconia. Check it out on Wikipedia and it will give you so more info about it's "final moments". But to go back to your original question, i have heard the story and did read about it somewhere but i've never seen the interview/programme you have mentioned.

"16 Sep 1942: At 1125, a B-24 "Liberator" bomber of the USAAF 343rd Squadron arrives from Ascension. U-156 flies a large Red Cross flag. The pilot assesses the rescue situation and signals his base for instructions. He is ordered to sink the submarines. At 1232, the B-24 begins 5 low level attacks. During the first attack 1 of the lifeboats is hit and capsizes. In the 2nd attack, a bomb explodes amidships and damages the U-156. The submarines cut the lifeboats' tow lines and crash dive."

I jusrt found the chain of events on Wikipedia. It was the Laconia incident and involved U-156, commanded by Lt. Captain Wartenstein. it happened on September 13th 1942. It shows wat can happen when common sense takes a backseat to the heat of battle. May all those that perisched in the Laconia incident rest in peace! Friend and foe alike. I am sure that this info will help find the video footage of this incident. It is out there somewhere.

The interview of the Brit nurse was on the World at War docu series in the US If anybody can find it, please post it here. Those U-Boat sailors and the U-Boat would have been interned in Spain until the end of the war That U-Boat would have never seen combat again. German sobmarines were under Hitlers order not to pick up survivors and shoot them so that they could not reveal the location of the U-Boat to allied rescuers. and would have faced execution if they would have returned to Germany.

steponitbill, Do you remember the true story of a German U-Boat that picked uo so many survivors of a Brit freighter that they had sunk in the Mediteranian that they were towing them iin a string of lifeboats while surfaced and heading for neutral Spain. A US B-24 spotted this rescue effort and was ordered by it's base to sink it. There were a few shipwreck survivors that were later picked up by the RN. A Brit nurse told this story. If anybody can find a video of it, please post it here.
