I practice Okinawa go ju ryu (that's the name of the style), but I think the best way of fighting is jet kune do. No form is your form... Every stile can be used only against someone who uses a similar stile. If you have to fight in the street against a criminal you can't move just like a katà.

I am looking for new members of a group whose primary focus is to establish Karate Do as a restriced label based on a list of guide lines that must be fulfilled before any dojo can use the name of Karate. As a member you have the rights to add ideas to the guide lines or debate some of the current ones. in order to become a member you must believe in the priciple that Karate Do is a true marital art and not just a sport.

Japan was fighting for Asian territory since the white man had colonized it and owned all its resources. Japan was wrong in there agression but once the US cut off there supply of oil Japan had to attack the Dutch East Indies/ Indonesia for their oil if they were to maintain the stregnth to keep the colonist, Europe/US in check. The A bomb was absolutely necessary to end the war quickly and prevent the loss of many more American lives. My cousin fought in the battle of Okinawa, and because of this I have read up quite a bit about it. When the Americans saw how ferociously the Japs fought to defend a tiny island like Okinawa, they realized that they would fight even more so when the Americans invaded the Japanese mainland, hence, the decision to drop the bomb. As an American I have no regrets whatsoever.

It was "evil" wherever Japan went during the Pacific War and I really think at the time, Japan reaped a bitter harvest of hate in consequence. Also, given the distrust between the communist powers, Russia in particular, and the U.S., I don't think you can be so sure that the Soviets would not have developed a nuclear advantage anyway. They had the means and the know-how, and with Stalin in charge, motives which might lack sanity.

loo85, the issue for the U.S. wasn't how much damage the marines could inflict by invading mainland Japan, it was how much damage the Japanese military and civilian populace (and make no mistake the Japanese civilians were training to kill invaders) might inflict on U.S. forces. If you think about what the Japanese did to their own civilians at Saipan, and consider that they committed suicide willingly rather than be captured, I think you can start to understand what the problem with Japan was.

I doubt the question of whether the A-bomb was necessary to put a period mark on the Pacific War can ever be satisfactorily answered. People will always vote one way or the other based on personal sentiments because the known facts can be interpreted in different ways. Regardless of where you stand on it, however, you can't deny that the Japanese high command could have and should have seen that the war was lost and ceased fighting much earlier. Ultimately, Japan has only itself to blame.

I visited Okinawa last week and spent 8 days there. I visited Okinawa's Peace Memorial Park in Itoman City. It was so sad when i got there and saw all those black gravestone with lots os names(Japanese, American, British,...) witten on them. The museum was remodeled its building in located in a beautiful cliff in front of the sea. I also visted the museum, it was nice to learn about the war but sad though!

I used to teach SCUBA diving there back in 2002-2003 and was in the water all over the prefecture nearly every day. Although the waters have been heavily over-fished and some of the reefs around the very popular dive sites (Maeda Point and Sunabe Seawall) are nothing to write home about, the reefs around the the northern part of Okinawa-honto and the Kerama Islands are in very good shape.

Great video. I lived in on Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan for 2 years. It was amazing. However, the topic of the American military's vast shadow of negativity now cast on Okinawa is not one that I see of great importance right now. The reason is there are greater threats to safety posed by other nations. If anything, we are protecting them or at least giving them more of a chance to survive. Think back to World War II when Japanese soldiers killed Okinawans out of fear of our military.

i want to do martial arts , i used to be in ShaoLin for about 2 years, the only ting i don't like about it is there is much testing and when i watch thing like Drunken Master i just want to do it that way have one teacher that can help me , i need to be watched constantly so i get the forms just right, but iam in a lame town that has nothing like that. sorry i just thought i would complain.

I have never been to Okinawa but my dad and his family are Okinawan and all we got a chance to experience is the music. I love how in the dance sequences you can see the different cultures that have had an impact on the Ryukyu islands and the Okinawan people. My fammily wants to go to Okinawa and thi makes me want to go even more. I cried watching this. I am missing out on so much ='(

Not Meibukan, as I practice. Pretty close. No Kiai on the front kicks, Meibukan signature. Slow on the wrist block followed by the block, push, uppercut. Uppercut is supposed to be faster that the feet, hand supposed to be quicker than foot, also signature of Meibukan(hands and feet work together). Difficult to get the concept into your head let alone master. Cat stance at the end not Meibukan. Only 5-10% weight,front foot, heel turned slightly outward, front leg protects the groin.

'flow more' doesnt mean melt.. it means flow more than demonstrated.. dont misinterpret good advice.. masters higaonna and chinen teaching our club gave advice to the highest grades the most.. not because they were poor karateka but because there is so much refinement possible..

i trained japanese and okinawan goju and have an opinion.. theres good and bad everywhere.. there are -principles- in all kata versions.. different empnasis, based perhaps on oyo bunkai favoured or in actual use at the time.. we can all learn from everything.. even a child can notice something we miss..

It is inappropriate for certain groups to think there's is the only version. A student of IOGKF looks at a Meibukan kata or one of Toguchi and says it is not goju because it does not match their version. Therefore, not knowing that there are other versions, call it Shito Ryu

I have to say something. This is from the documentary "The Three Major Styles of OKinawan Karate", obviously, no one has seen it critiquing this like the YouTube Martial Arts experts you all think you are. This was filmed in Okinawa in a Meibukan Goju Ryu Dojo. Meibukan is not a "version" of Goju Ryu. Meibukan IS Goju Ryu!It is NOT Shito Ryu, it is not WKF, and this is not a "kid" that any of you could hold a candle to and should be criticizing.

I would not say that the pace is what we use in our Ryu Syo Kai dojo, but what is the context of the video - for show, demo? I have seen other videos other goju schools where sepai takes 2 minutes, but I am sure the pace in that vid was slowed for demo purposes. This person in Okinawa is very smooth.
