malmsteen is excellent, but nobody forget that this guys put soul in their music. it isnt always about how fast u can play, because a slow song can be as wonderful as a fast song, its what they put in their music, and even though i love malmsteen, i dont rank him with them because he is all about speed, and that isnt always best. i would prefer jason becker, he is a musician with soul because afterall he has been through he doesnt give up.

I like Malmsteen and I have everything he did solo, with Alcatraz and Steeler. But these guys (I dunno about Paco but Di Meola and McLaughlin for sure) are also far ahead in their skills and technique. Di Meola´s early records were pure shred and that was before Malmsteen even entered the "biz". But soon after that, Di Meola refused to do any shred records although he somehow still shreds lol.

I think this version is very nice, it is a different interpretation of the piece, but it is important to remember this piece was not written for flamenco guitar, it was written for classical guitar. Rodrigo dedicated this piece to a classical guitarist, Regino Sainz de la maza. Unfortunatly it was not Segovia due to the physical distance between Rodrigo and Segovia at the time it was written. Consequently Segovia never recorded it, and we are at a lost for that.

To answer your question, most classical makers make flamenco guitars. Good ones will start at around 1-1500 pounds sterling. Concert models go 3000 upwards. Paco's will no doubt be a fine example, and disregarding the fact that he owns it, could well be worth over 20k. If you are just starting out, just get yourself a classical and go from there. Try and find one with a brighter than average tone, and if you get into it, get a students flamenco Guitar, they do them for about £300

This is not exactly my expert area, but its likely that he is playing a fairly old (vintage, if you like) guitar, as they get better with age. This is a flamenco specific guitar, as you can see from the peg head (as opposed to geared tuners) and the fact that the back and sides are the same colour as the top. This usually means the back and sides are made of cypress, which is the traditional wood for Flamenco. It has the bright cutting tone needed for flamenco, to be heard over the clapping etc.

Reducing Paco de Lucía to just fast notes I think is rather silly, the man revolutionized flamenco and is one of the most complete musicians I've ever heard. Paco Peña is a great guitarist, but most of his (at least a bit older) songs are largely borrowed from other guitarists, including Paco de Lucía. This granaína for example is almost identical to one by Sabicas. No crime there, just mentioning. I don't like comparing guitarists, the fast notes comment of Paco just bothered me.

Dont limit paco de lucia to just "fast notes" I saw him in Copenhagen some years ago and experienced some thing like a musical orgasm during one of his slow and more weird numbers. The intensity and skill of the sound of each note was magical!! Eventhough i didnt understand and fully apreciate that song, i was transported somehwere else. The room dissapeard and everything just became sound! Havent had that experience before or since.

There are many things in this world people can not really compare which one is better than the other one. It's all based on from which angle we look at things. I like both Paco De Lucia and Paco Pena. They both great flamenco guitarists. After all, they both created wonderful music for people.

Maybe you should try,and you'll see what practice means...but i don't think that you've heard about music politics and protocol.If i'd be Paco de Lucia i'll be telling you to practice to gather skill 8 hours a day,so i can be the best and you won't achieve faster than i did.The true thing is...if you really are talented you don't need to do too much practice because you're willpower dictates a perfect practice timing.Cheers

You got it. All you need is some way to get that talent out of you... like when you are a child and you see something impressive, a jet plane take off, and then you want to be a pilot... But some are more dextrously talented than others. Look at Django Reinhardt, he had two fingers but still playes better than almost everyone playing now. Not being silly here either!

Yes, you are correct, but if you don't have musical tallent you don't see reason to spend so much time on this. I have met countless people that want to be great guitarists but they don't do any exercises... why? no tallent, they don't want to understand, they want appreciation. That's what i meant. Your musical tallent dictates how willing you are to spend 3, 5 or 7 hours a day practicing, even if at a nearly unconcious level. So you see.. it is about dedication.

Actually.. i'll go as far as to say he almost never practiced technique, only to sing.. that's why his alzapua is awesome, as his is rasgueo, but picados need more work. Cheers. oh and by the way.. i keep seeing people mention paco de lucia, i reckon they mean his picado and compositional skills, paco de lucia spent 3..say 4 hours a day for about 7-8 years..

además tengo un disco doble de paco y he visto casi todos los videos del youtube,así que creo que definitivamente su sonido tiene algo que no me gusta eso no quiere decir que piense que es un mal guitarrista o algo así puesto que solo hablo de su sonido no de su arte, a veces suena como si usase una lija para puertas en ves de uñas

el mismo paco dice en las entrevistas que sabe cuáles son sus limitaciones y que no le gusta que le echen más flores que las que se merece a mí personalmente me gusta más como suena tonino baliardo o vicente amigo,y no soy ningún entendido en flamenco pero tengo un par de orejas.
