got to see them twice in Columbia! I stole a pitcher from the club as a souvenir, and when the owner came after me about it, Dave King chased him off!! (it was just a disposable plastic pitcher, and I was yoinking it because the warm-up band had dropkicked it into one of my friends' head, and she had to leave to get her head looked at and didn't get to see Flogging Molly, so I got the band to sign the pitcher) And the "friend" I did this for never even thanked me!

Isn't Paddy Reilly Wonderful. I love this song, and this must go down so very well in Switzerland. Gosh you are lucky to live there, are U a tax exile. Has there been much snow lately ? Well, you did say that she was using one note per bow stroke and therefore using classical bowing. Aw, and lay off the "knowing this name makes me better than you" technicalities. Tunes, jigs, reels, whatever you wanna call them, at the end of the day, they're all songs. You should also note that not once did I say I was a good player. I just said that unlike you, I know how to appreciate music for how enjoyable the melody is, and not for how big a show-off the player is.

I didn't say either of those things about bowing. I pointed out her poor interpretation. You have to be able to play to interpret. Also, this is not a "song", it's a "tune". Proof once again you have no knowledge of the music at hand. The problem with newbies is that they think they know how to play cuz mommy says so, when in fact they suck! Okay, no matter how long you've played: Saying that classical violin bowing means using one note per stroke = wrong Just like saying that fiddle bowing means using many notes per stroke. The problem with people who get really good at instruments is that some of them forget what makes a song good. They become fans of the videos where the players only show off on how fast they can play and the techniques they can use instead of giving you a nice song.

Her interpretation of the tune uses one bow stroke. She's using classical violin bowing for a fiddle tune which always sounds stupid. Fiddling has different bow patterns than classical technique. This is what mostly distinguishes violin from fiddle styles despite being the same instrument.. I play several instruments and have been playing Irish and Celtic music for over a decade. I actively gig and have recorded. I don't think you really have any idea what good music is.

Okay, apparently I made the mistake of assuming you knew the first thing about violin playing when I made that comment. I am well aware that as far as note speed goes, there are much, MUCH faster songs out there. It's about the slurs. This song uses only one note per bow stroke. Which means that she has to move her arm up and down for each note. Take it from someone who actually knows what he's talking about, it is tiring. Sharon's a goddess.

Very pleasant duet. Both performers sounded great togther and the end result was a fine, passionate delivery on this goregeously written song. Most are familiar with it by the cover from 'The Highway Men' (featuring: Willie Nelson/Kris Kristofferson/Waylong Jennings/Johnny Cash). Personally, I like bother versions for I feel they each offer/harbor their own strength (depending on your mood at the time, what you're looking for). Webb has a real flair/talent for song composition and development.

However, the simple fact that there are other performers who may produce a "better" version of a song does not diminish the High King's version. They choose a very choral sound, I'm sure it was a deliberate choice and given their talents a very smart choice.

Everyone states that he is crying because he lost his mother and this was her favorite song. BUT, Ive never seen this reason listed anywhere else other than this comment section. The facts are, he was one month from being 5 when she passed. He is about 12 here.. Her passing was not a recent event and at his age of 4 he probably doesnt remember her all that much. Maybe someday we will learn the facts?

I love Paddy Rielly. Not too keen on The Wolfe Tones...and at the end of the day the only version that matters is Luke Kelly's. His version completely overshadows all others with it's power and passion. He was the greatest singer there ever was. Of anything.

It was fantastic! As soon as he was done playing I ran out and got his CD...and he was there! He was so nice. He signed my CD and I got my picture taken with him. Not many other people were there so we got to talk for like, 5 minutes. He absolutly amazing, and not that bad looking, if I do say so myself...
