That was so awesome! Even if it was fake....I don't care it was cool!I do however feel that it is real for some reason since the whole haunting segment was one long take. The only thing was the lights turning on and off and the camera moving....it was kinda awkward. You can make up an explanation for every single video there is. For some people just to want it to be a fake, that doesn't mean it is. My first guess was rats in this case, they often make noises in attics mess things around more than you can believe. But the pets behaviour truly troubles me. You can see that whenever the chair slides back the daughters ankles are shown very taught and rigid. The chair is juddering as it shuffles back. If the daughter was relaxing her ankles in the chair then the heels would jump up and down with the movement. But they don't, they are completely rigid as the chair moves back.

I agree leeb12 they were scary back then. Now horror filmes resort right to brainless slasher, blood, and gore with no real plot, story, or depth. It's scary only because it resorts to the blood. But movies way back then had more of an "intellectual" quality of being scary. Unlike the horrible movies we have now like Saw or sloppy zombie remakes. I guess it's the blood & gore that sells today and not a good story. Poltergeist was/is a great classic!

Check 01:14-15, there's a dark shape beside the chest of drawers, most likely the item that pushed over the mattress. My guess, the chest of drawers was hollowed out and someone was inside to push out/in the drawer and push over the mattress. The kid in the mirror is also easily explained. I used to think the same as you, but I regret to tell you that it is indeed a hoax. One suspicious issue is that the maker of the video is not available for comments, but the compelling reason is that as the mattress falls over, if you stop and run the video very carefully indeed, you can see a movement alongside the chest of drawers.

I find it funny that some people on the classical side try to paint ragtime as a very "simple" music (in some ways it is), and occasionally belittle the musical talent and education of the composers (sometimes disregarding the actual education of the ragtime classicists). On the jazz side, they focus only on ragtime AS classical music ("classic ragtime") and use that as a negative quality, completely disregarding the many fine POPULAR rags which were never intended to be played as written!

Look, I know that you are well-meaning in your comment and you like the older rags. It's just that I've seen scores that use the usual enharmonic misspellings of notes and chords (which, admittedly, can be easier for me to read in some cases), and then I've seen scores like Joplin's, where every chord is spelled correctly, and he even uses double-flats (and maybe double-sharps) where necessary. He also does classical things like restating thematic material.

I still don't know what you mean by more schooled. They are certainly more difficult and use more modern classical techniques and harmonies, many of which appeared after Joplin's time. If you mean Bolcom was practically the first serious modern classical composer to write ragtime, even before the classical music establishment started taking ragtime seriously, then I agree with you.

Point well taken. Admittedly, I shouldn't have used such a vague and tendentious term as "high art" without defining it first (blasted 500-character limit!) I certainly didn't mean to imply that the rags of Joplin, Lamb, et al do not dislay a high degree of artistic merit, but simply that they exemplify an essentially POPULAR art-form (as do the works of Shakespeare, Dickens, Twain, etc.) Although Bolcom's rags are more "schooled" than those of Joplin & co, they aren't necessarily better.

I thought that was Joplin who did that already? And Joseph Lamb, and James Scott, and Paul Pratt and Artie Matthews, and Harry C. Thompson, and good lord, a whole slew of vintage composers. Certainly, Bolcom was just about the first to take it into the realm of modern CONTEMPORARY classical music.

I am often annoyed when I see pianists incorporating histrionic gestures into their performances, but in this instance Mr. Cazal's theatrics, far from being distracting, seem to be no more than a natural, maybe even necessary, outgrowth of the piece's boisterous humor; he clearly has no technical or musical shortcomings for which he must compensate! William Bolcom has done for ragtime just what Chopin did for the mazurka and Brahms did for the waltz: he has raised it to the level of high art.

do you know how hard it is to move a chair THAT fast with wires and not have any of the feet leave the ground? Yes, it will jerk to an angle, and the leg with the wire will lead like the video. BUT, one of the legs will leave the ground and thus give you away. Still, if someone wants to put on a real video, show a chair spinning in mid air, then have it turn at a different angle, and continue to spin. THAT can't be done with wires lol, they'd get tangled

"Mediums" have ways of causing knocks in lighted rooms, even when their hands are visible - a steel plate on a shoe knocking on a wood or linoleum floor for example. The clip of the "medium" using religious provocation would be a lot more compelling if he was visible. The parents are likely in on it too ... because they want it to be true. Really, they are cruel to frighten their kids so.
