awesome aircraft i saw her at auckland international airport for her first trip across the ditch to new zealand, i couldnt believe how quite this thing is,it flew around the city for one hour but the pilot had to abort the landing due to wind shear so they flew around for another half hour. i cant wait until emirates fly their a380 here all the time it will be wicked!!

Qantas took the second largest order, 20 aircraft. Emirates came first with a MASSIVE 58 airraft! some of Qantas's new A380's will fly the Kangaroo route, i.e. Sydney-Singapore-London and others will be flying Melbourne-Sydney-Los Angeles. Its great Qantas has done this, it should freshen up their image after the recent list of bungle's.

The A380 looks particularly beautiful in the Qantas colours. She is a stunning aircraft, especially as she rolls out of the paint shop all shiny and new. Qantas should be very proud that they have taken a risk with this plane and showed the world just what can be achieved with this impressive, gentle giant. I cannot wait to see her land at Heathrow. Qantas' A380 as of October 10, has still not flown a Regular Public Transport sector yet. It's flying back and foward for testing, Ops training for Cabin crew, and promotions. The first flight of a Qantas A380 on an actual revenue RPT passenger flight will be a Melbourne to Los Angeles October the 20th 2008. The Airbus Drop you are talking about is an A330-300. About the size of a 767 (single deck ~300 people). (and not an A320 like in the newspaper)

the airbus A380 drop can not be at Qantas fault! This is a BRAND NEW aircraft that was tested (hence travelling from airport to airport within the country) they flew into an airpocket hence the drop. If that is proven false QANTAS ARE STILL NOT AT FAULT! This BRAND NEW aircraft would be at the AirBus manufacturing fault! nothingg happens! the plane is like a cage..doesnt effect anything. Cars get hit by lightning as well, but nothing happens to them. If you want evidence type (Car Lightning - Top Gear - BBC autos) and you will see them testing a car getting hit with lightning with a person inside. Nothing happens..planes are the same.

Lightning "seeks" the shortest path to the ground, including the top of buildings. But from far up, it can't "sense" it and so most times it misses. I think it never "senses" airplanes flying in the air, because they're in the air. When lightning hits an airplane in the air, it only takes the shortest path within the surface and around the people and misses them, because instead of coming up at the people, it's always going the shortest way to the very bottom and out and towards the Earth.

Qantas' 'crash' was a runway overun at Bangkok in a 747-400 (Longreach) - this did serious damage to the engines, landing gear (ripped off) and frame. No casualties, minor injuries. The aircraft was out of service for some time, repaired and in service still.

He yanks the thrust back so its in the idle position. Don't forget he isnt looking at his hand so he wants no mistake the throttle is all the way back so he can engage the reverse thrust. When landing 600,000lbs of plane there's no prizes for being gentle. Get all that weight settled on the ground then get it slowed down

I have heaps more horror stories regarding Qantas but there's only 500 characters allowed per message. Also, who's the genius at Qantas that schedules 3 of it's international flights to LAX to arrive at the same terminal within 10 minutes of each other. Customs and baggage collection is a friggin nightmare with that many arrivals at once

You should do one for 2008.I've flown to LA 7 times in the past 3 years and have watched service seriously decline while prices go up. One flight from Melb to LA was delayed 3 hrs and when we finally got on the entertainment system didn't work. It's a 14 hour flight! We got a free sandwich for our troubles. Also stung $1,300 to change a flght to fly back home for a funeral which I missed because the plane was 2 hrs late. Told I'd have to wait 7 weeks for an available flight if I didn't pay

Qantas anyday.... I used to work in a hotel that dealt with virgin blue crew. I have to say i see why the airline is so sloppy after dealing with their staff on a daily basis. Pilots who were anhilated the night before flying an aircraft (and im talking 8 hours before they are due to leave), space waiteresses who like to spread their faeces thrughout the hotel room (on more then one occasion too), naked crew running around the floors (not that one was too bad.....;-p)

though i haven't flown with qantas for a while, they were second best airline for two years, so they must be pretty sweeet. flew with Tiger airways to Singapore and Virgin blue to sydney recently both were good, but i'd imagine qantas to be better. hopefully i can become a pilot later on, but for now ill have to use FSX.

AMEN to that !! Being an Australian now living in Vancouver, and having flown with Air Canada too many times, I am horrified by the service here. Last time I flew, they refused to issue my boarding pass to L.A. because I didn't have a visa for Singapore, and my connecting flight was out of L.A. to Singapore, even though CANADIAN CITIZENS DON'T NEED A VISA FOR SINGAPORE. It was a nightmare !!!

I love watching this ad on tv only coz its kwl. But i honestly think they wasted alot of money on it, they should have just put the old comercial in (with the kids all over the world) but at the end instead of the 747 the A380. but i still like the ad. Well there is a significant difference in noise level between the RR's on a 747-300 and 747-400. The ones on the 747-300 have alot more "buzz saw" than on the 747-400. In general if you were sitting on the front side of the engines you will hear alot of the "buzz saw" than you would if you were sitting behind it.

Well, since Youtube shows that you're not responding to a comment initially you should explain what the conversation is. If you pull one engine back, you will give rudder automatically (since aircraft yawing) and then since the he would HAVE to scan his EICAS and it's hard to miss seeing the N1 dropping, or hearing the engine noise lower, if it did comprimise the takeoff, and he wasn't above V1, then he could do a rejected takeoff. One engine lost on the 747 isn't the biggest deal.
