I must agree with Tim. Most people didn't really think of them as musicians and singers, but as comedians. But this version of " Mariah " rivals Harve Presnells, Gogi Grants, or any other version I have ever heard. I was born in '50 and was raised with them in the sixties. I don't know if they ever produced a serious album, but if they did I would love to know about it. Fantastic musical talent. Salute.

I don't know how you have access to these but I'd LOVE to see more. I was just a kid and was not allowed to watch so, of course, I did! The Smothers Brothers were so edgy and risque plus musically and comedically they were entertaining and talented. Folks don't appreciate it now.

Thanks for posting this. Because these guys were so consistently hilarious, their musicianship generally went unnoticed. Here they demonstrate how adept they were at complex two part harmonies. Moreover, Tom Smothers is one of the finest rhythm guitarists of the era. He played very complex chords and rhythms incorporating folk, jazz, and blues while singing beautifully and mugging for the audience at the same time. They really are extraordinary performers. I still steal from them whenever I can.

Please add "They Call the Wind Mariah" to your tags. It's one of the best performances of this song ever and some people need to find it that way. Thanks for posting clips from one of the greatest shows of my era - one that influenced my sense of humor, my politics and how I look at the world today. E! re-ran their shows for awhile in the early 90s. It was the original shows, along with contemporary commentary by Dick and Tom, as well as some footage censored from the original CBS airings. The Smothers Brothers have just released a DVD box set of their 3rd season. (I assume they're starting with Season 3 because it was the most controversial.) The DVD set will have lots of extras and commentary. You can preorder it at their official website or at Amazon. I've already ordered my set!

Great memories here, but as much as I watched it years ago, I don't remember them getting through a whole song without Tommy's nonsense, lol. They had a great show, that Steve Martin did some writing for. Lots of great bands were on there each week. Tommy and Dick were great musicians in their own right. Thanks for this great clip.
