When I first about the story line for this new Trek movie, I was thrilled. Finally, a chance for Star Trek to revisit its origins. Then I saw the trailerI felt betrayed, let down and dismayed. Then this parody shows up to redeem my opinion of the whole sordid mess. No, I havent seen the movie; a trailer is supposed to entice you to the movie plex?this one does not.

Oh, dear. This is all wrong, just plain wrong. What's with Bones as a pretty boy? And Sylar as Spock? Dear God, he's way too girly for that role. That Uhura wannabe? Nichelle Nichols was much prettier and curvier in TOS than that chick. And since when can Kirk drive a car? He couldn't drive a car in his thirties, so what makes them think he could as a kid? The 90210 theme music captures the feel of this trailer perfectly. All style, no substance. I hope the movie is better than the trailer.

Sorry but comparing Star Trek to 90210? Hell no. The new 90210 and even the old one both suck. The only thing is good and worth watching on the CW is Supernatural (except I'm not into it) and Smallville (which is the one I'm actually into and I enjoy it and love it a lot especially this season which is the best one yet) but the rest of the CW sucks.

I sort of agree with you. I still wanted Star Trek Enterprise to continue more than this new film but I'm starting to like what I'm seeing in this new film now. A lot of non-Trekkies are already liking this film. I'm mostly the one in my family is Trek fanatic and most of my friends are not really into Trek either but they might love the new film though which I want them to so I won't be alone as the one is only Trek fanatic anymore!

You should see Sub-Commander T'pol butt naked on Star Trek Enterprise or Seven of Nine from Star Trek Voyager. Lol. They are one of the most hottest women on Star Trek ever. Oh Ensign Hoshi Sato from Star Trek Enterprise looks really hot too. Now they made new Uhura really hot too. Lol. The original Uhura might not be pretty as the new one but she is still cool though like the true James T. Kirk, William Shatner is. New Kirk looks awesome too.

Being a fan of Trek since back in the days we only had TOS, and a dyed-in-the-wool fan of Lost, I'll be like a dog with two dicks come May 09. JJ Abrams, Cloverfield aside (awful!), and his mates that work on both Lost and the new Trek film, are some of the brightest young things in TV and movies today. If anyone can reboot the franchise, it is these guys. Of that I have no doubts at all. IF it dies with this film, then no one could have saved it. Simple as that.

Not real sure how i feel about this trailer, It doesnt seem to have the feel of the older series but I guess that may just be because of the CGI available nowadays!! When is it coming out again, I think i missed the date on the trailer...?? I love Star Trek so I hope it lives up to the hype especially without a cameo from Shatner which I feel it should have had even if he only played one of Kirks relatives.... Shame they didnt include him, still cant wait for the movie to come out!! Thanks!!

I can see why some people didn't like TMP... although I like it just fine. But regardless, *this* was the scene that introduced the Enterprise as a character in her own right. I don't think seeing her die in ST3 carries quite the same impact unless you've seen her effectively born right here.

The wing like assembly that leads to the engines was actually introduced by Matt Jefferies (Creater of the Enterprise)but it didn't make it into the earlier design of the Telivision Model. Also, this model you see here was sold a few years back at auction when most Star Trek stuff was moved out of the old Paramount Studios

I really want to like this movie. Watch any 5-10 minute section from the move and it's awesome. The problem is that two hours worth is mind-numbing. I think the director's edition in 2001 helped somewhat, but ultimalety the pace of the movie seems far too leisurely. A shame, as clearly a lot of thought and care went into the film.

Interesting note here..as the new ENTERPRISE has been unvieled..JJ abrams had specifically refered to THIS SCENE as inspiration..that it showed how real and how utterly massive the Enterprise COULD be. Apparently the introduction of the new Enterprise on film will be very similiar to this classic scene. This was one of the best parts of TMP. Lets hope the new TREK reaches for the same standard.

The impression I always got from seeing this scene in the movies in '79 and the fantastic score, one of the best ever by Goldsmith perhaps only surpassed by his score for "The Blue Max" that this was "Holy Ground". For those not privy, Shatner wrote that the planet that V'ger came into contact with that gave it sentient life was the Borg homeworld. Finding it a kindred spirit, they sent it back towards Earth so it could find its creator. There was nothing considered canon about any of it though

yes the force would help reflexes... not speed. Luke skywalker dodge how many right after each other? That is impossible unless he moves the speed of light. How can you dodge three shots at once? even if you know where they are going. You cant unless they are really slow. Like in star wars. Luke skywaler does not jump out of the way, or dodge when then move he dodges 10 blasts and shit. Which would mean there lasers are super slow.

not really, the borg's ability to adapt to the empire's weaponry is non-existant, in the words of admiral ackbar "our cruisers(or in this case cubes) cannot repel firepower of that magnitude." there's no frequency or modulation to adapt to, and the sheer concentrated power of a turbolaser bolt puts even a species 8472 ship to shame...

so the scenario could be the bio ships unleash that blast against a Venator, the Venator's shields are impacted and the venator crew notice that they were hit by something unusually powerful for this galaxy, the force of the blast starts to push the venator, but the engines flare up and the venator levels out and pushes back, species 8472 retreat cause a ship just survived their blast with no apparent damage, (though the shields did take some, almost as much as a single Acclamator shot.)

B. had a planetary shield been up that could repel 200 gigatons or more, than Species 8472 would not have been able to destroy the planet so easily, they would have had to break through the shields first. so the chain reaction has to start before something that destructive happends, if the chain reaction is halted by say a shield, than the power of that blast isn't anywhere near enough to destroy a star destroyer, let alone a planet.

sorry pal, but the books are not pure nonsense, the ICS books are canon and the firepower and shields star wars vessels have make it so that phasers just won't cut it, if you pardon the pun. in fact, from the ICS stats a single Venator class star destroyer could destroy thousands of borg cubes on it's own, and that's without having it's weapons go to full power or launching fighters or using the spha/t cannons as stated before the ICS books are canon, deal with it.

you don't need to send in the borg. massive technological disadvantage (weapons power, range, accuracy, ...) are all ST advantages. Again... the borg could teleport in and assimilate any technology. Aside from the empire having shitty as shield tech, the borgs are more powerful than even regular federation ships. Also Species 8472 is unique and they could ram right into a space ship, and survive regardless of firepower, and then kill the crew. Don't be fooled by the hype! This is nothing like the Star Trek that you know and something worse than simply updating Star Trek. The characters have been completely re-written and the timeline that we know, has been destroyed. Spock in attempting to stop the Romulans from destroying the Federation somehow, fails and the timeline that we know is completely obliterated! No more Star Trek! The look is only an approximation. I'm looking forward to the movie and I'm looking forward to Leonard Nimoy and to Zach Quinto. But I can't get my head around why Kirk and Spock would be at the academy at the same time as Bones and Scotty, who are ten years older, and Sulu, Chekov and Uhuru, who are so much younger. I also, while knowing it's a petty fan thing, object to seeing someone with blue eyes playing Kirk - surely they could've got the guy some contacts, just for continuity's sake?

Man I am on the verge of crying. That was amazingly done. It's like you hilighted every major event and story in the whole franchise. As much as I love William Shatner's Kirk, if the franchise is to survive past one more movie it *needs* to get away from Shatner and Nimoy....and it pains me to say that as I love them both. I know Nimoy is in the new movie, but I hope it is kept to a token cameo. It needs to evolve past these actors, who are not getting any younger it should be noted. BTW, I think Pine and Quinto look fabulous and both are competent enough to lick these roles. Roll on May! Can't wait!

Shatner deserves the repect he has earned. Star trek without the true Kirk is always lacking. My only regret is that I could have met him once in Tampa, but I only had enough money to get me in, and my nephew was with me. The needs of the two, outweighed the needs of the one. I am a fan of Star Trek but to me the show revolved around three important caracters and the chemistry of those caracters. James T Kirk, Spock & Dr McCoy. If one of them is missing the equation is different! I could not watch Star Trek solely for Kirk or Spock or McCoy. It doesn't really matter if the original actors are playing them. To paraphrase Keith Richards about the Stones "this thing is bigger than the some of is part" as long as the new actors stay true to the original idea of the show!

Why is it a problem that his character died? Couldnt the flashback or traveling back in time have taken place between the time he retired as a ship captain and the time he got sucked into the Nexus from the Enterprise-B? Why do they have to work around bringing him back to life?

It is true, he did bring back Kirk in his book, the Borg got Kirk's body from the grave (ST Generations) where he was buried by Picard and brought him back to life. Maybe Shatner can appear on ST Phase II like Sulu and Chekov have. If Phase II can find a way to bring those 2 charcters back in a realistic way, I am sure they could do the same with Shatner...maybe a "Flash Foward" episode.
