Mind you though, that the King Tiger made a powerfull stand in the ardennen offensive and was generaly feared by everyone that would encounter it. The Germans didn't think it trough when they made the tiger series. Although it's heavy armour and powerful main gun made it an dangerous foe. It's heavy weight was it's major drawback. It consumed huge amounts of fuel 500L/100km (something Germany was always in short supply off). The drivetrain wasn't well suited for the engine this caused many breakdowns. And it was slow. So this tank wasn't very effective in an offensive role. And tanks weren't meant to be used as a deffensive weapon

This is the first post rebuild drive a Panther Tank. This tank was assembled in February of 1944. This tank fell through the ice and into a small river in Poland in January of 1945. It spent the next 45 years submerged. This rebuild started almost 6 years ago and is nearly complete. (some footage provided by Greg Taylor of Taylor Restorations and Pahrahdise Ranch.

Hey. Technically the tank can still be put into use so long as it passed hydrostatic and visual testing. Unpainted eh? Somehow I doubt it'll pass..but it might. Well that's not always the case. I have a tank from 66 and it passed hydo and vis. Also if you didn't pay for it, then it might be worth the $40(or whatever they charge near you .) If it passes then you don't need to spend several hundred $ on a new tank.

WoW! That was very cool! I have some aluminium tanks--unpainted--from the 60s that belonged to my dad. I wonder if they're still good. Some were filled as long ago as 1967--tags still on them--and never used. Is that bad? or is it good to help prevent corrosion? (Al doesn't corrode much but it does get a powdery surface oxidation.)
