I'm not sure if I should be ashamed to say this but,,, I know at first glance, this new romantic "movement" looks pretty gay, but dangit, I like it, the music, fashion, NR girls, even the makeup! hehe, it's revival of that art movement, cant remember the name. Contrast this style/fashion to Ultravox which was somewhat different, less flamboyant than Visage. Bottom line, current music is shite compared to the 80's.

So many videos in the 80's had a scene with a film projector. How could they have known film would become obsolete in the future?

That's not so obvious here though; YouTube's max 30 frames per second, suppresses part of video's "look" which comes from its higher temporal (motion/time) resolution, since that updates at 50/60 fields (half-frames per second). (50 half-frames isn't the same as 25 frames, since unlike film, the two halves aren't shot at the same time). Isn't it strange that a major part of the film look that people prefer is actually down to lower temporal resolution?

Sorry, but IMHO this isn't a patch on Ashes to Ashes (the song *and* the video)... nor for that matter is it a patch on Fade to Grey (ditto). Both those songs were masterpieces, so this shouldn't be taken as condemnation; all the same it's not in the same league.

Midge ure was singing back-up vocals in this and Fade to gray, he also helped Steve strange later on in other songs. He was the one that decided to place french speaking lines in the song Fade to Gray. But he does have a good voice. Listen to Ultravox.

I thought there were some good artists in nue romantic at the very begining of the movement, like this groupe Visage, but the genre got ruind pretty quickly. Duran Duran made it big and it got too comercialized by MTV, and it seemd all the inferior acts rose to the surface and became the most visable ( Kajagoogoo, Thompson Twins and that kinde of shit ).

Wow! been trying to tell people about this one...I am nearly 40 yrs old and remember this one when DJ Mojo in Detroit, MI played this joint when I was a little pee wee back in the day. Visage is one of the first, not the first. . ."Cosmic Cars" was the same year as this track, and Parliament had gone virtually all-synth in by the late 70's not to mention Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, synth disco. . .and Miles Davis's electric turn which brought new ideas of recording and song structure. . .I doubt anyone would have been ready for post-punk and the new romantic sound is it weren't for Bitches Brew and On the Corner. . .but does it really matter?

A dj named Ron Hardy from chicago in the early 80s basically played this record at the music box his club to all the kids at the time from chicago detroit people like derick may and they went home and started to make music and they called it techno and house. hmm well even tho i can hear some analogue riffage on here its pretty basic, wasnt uncommon by that point, more like a john carpenter or kraftwerk styl (who were preceded and influenced by detroit funk bands and then disco records [also check italo disco] using the same kit) than pierre or armando style which is way more developed and instrument/sequencer specific. this is synth pop. they use drum machines, they were not the first or last...

Yes this song is awesome. Hell the 80's brit pop in general is awesome and still one of the best. I mean hell we had it all in the 80's. Back in the day I dressed gothic or as I liked to be termed was Death Rock. Now its EMO which means someone who is emotional who likes to cut himself or herself and is kinda suicidal.
