The statistics give a much better indicator of the reality than a 1 week stay at a four star hotel in the green zone. It's really quite simple actually, Capo 4 in this instance, but his original is in Capo 3. The chords used are C Am F and a type of B, basically use the shape of Am then take away your middle and ring finger and put the middle on the 2nd fret of the 5th string. That chord is used going from the verse to the chorus, and in the chorus. In the bridge it gets altered, add your ring finger to the 3rd fret of the 6th string. To do the riff play around with your middle finger on the C and F.

P.S. Bert Bachrach also proves the point about songwriters not suited to perform their own material. Like Webb, he struggles to hit the notes. That's why he always had very capable singers fronting his material. Webb simply cannot hit the notes. If this wasn't Jimmy Webb - let's say it was your neighbor singing, instead - you'd be cringing. It's usually good to hear the writer perform his or her own material. I have to admit that the vocals here are embarrassing: he simply does not have the voice for this material. The last 7-8 measures of this performance sound like Laura Nyro's piano playing. Other piano parts here sound like his song MacArthur Park -- perhaps too schmaltzy compared to the utter finesse of the vocals & arrangement of the Glen Campbell version. Still, one of the greatest songs written in popular music.
