Dman I'm a master on footwork, toprock and freezes, I can also do crickets and jackhammers, halo freeze, but I can't handle this move. The nameplate capacity of a wind farm is not a "lie." Everybody can read about wind power on Wikipedia which discusses the capacity factor of wind farms. Many hydroelectric plants also have relatively low capacity factors, because rivers can have large seasonal variations in flow. Nobody considers hydroelectric plants a "lie" just because they might produce little power during a dry season. When the rains return, the electricity is real again.

The San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm was one of the early U.S. wind farm. Therefore it uses mostly older wind turbines that are small compared to the current industry standard. Wind turbines keep getting bigger because the power capture and economics improves with size. Older wind farms are gradually getting repowered with new larger wind turbines, more widely spaced. This will reduce the visual clutter somewhat.

It's a lie. Rated capacities (the power they say they generate) are only valid in absolutely ideal weather and maintenance conditions. Usually wind turbines generate 12-20% of what they are rated at.

At about 1:15 the narrator says they are maintained by subsidies. I am doing some research on the effectiveness of wind turbines, and I cannot find all the facts on this topic. I want to know the answer to this question: "Why do wind turbines require subsidies to be maintained?" I can understand that other forms of energy are also subsidized, and I understand why wind turbines are subsidized for construction, but I thought wind turbines are supposed to pay for themselves? any help?

I think alternators need some power put into them (from a battery) before power comes out because instead of permanent magnets they use electro magnets which also helps regulate how much power is extracted making it easier to regulate --- fun project, could use a microprocessor to manage it all.

Thank for the comment, Those pieces flying around under severe wind conditions should be dangerous, You'd have to do proffesional work in order to use wind energy and to make it well built to the ground, All in all the video is great and the girl is lovely, I guess our future holds us crazy designs flying over our heads, When free power is being held and charged 1000's$ to install, I think the fault of those "accidents" are on those who hold all the good patents and the new green industry.

hello, somebody already stated it, but they are not the only manufacturer of windmills in the usa. they are the only manufacturer of a complete line of new aermotor windmills 6' to 16' wheel diameter. there are 2 rebuilder/maufacturers in the usa the both make a new 6' and 8' windmill, and offer complete lines of rebuilt windmills from 6'to 20' wheel diameters, these are Dakota Windmill Hurley, S.D. and Muller IND. It depends on the style of windmill that you use. Some are noisier than others. Homemade owns are typically more noisy than comercial built ones but if its done nicely and correctly you can make them very quiet too. if the windmill is a good solid unit that doesn't have a bunch of rattles in it for the most part the only noise you hear is a whisper quiet whoosh in the wind from the blades cutting though the air and maybe a little humming from the generator if not insulated for sound.

I had the chance to meet him today, he was a truely inspiring young man! And so modest! He dropped out of school because the country went through a famine where people were starving to death, and many of his family member came near to death. They could no longer pay the fee, so he found a way he could help his family, and himself by building a light he could read by. Then everything bloomed from there... he will be attending school next year. But right now hes enjoying chicago:)

I'm surprised you feel that way. I thought the TCA version is much better. The accompaniment on this is nice and Moyet hits the notes more clearly than Sting, but she sounds to forced/melodramatic for my tastes--especially when she tries to improvise for a moment. It sounds like someone singing in a church if you like that sort of thing. Sting has the right personality for the delivery of this song and the electric piano on that version is brilliant. To each their own though.
