It was a decent portrayal of what could have happened to a one-hit-wonder band. And Tom Hanks does a great Brian Epstein during the concert scenes (shades & chewing gum). But the soundtrack is like a list of Vee Jay rejects. None of these songs would have gone to a major label and the title track - despite some effort - failed when released. I personally tried my best as an FM jock & had personal reasons to see the song succeed. But I realized its short comings. It's a B side at best.

Even Hanks doesn't consider it a "serious" film, but I disagree. I was an adolescent then; there isn't a dishonest moment in the entire film. You can take any scene and say, "That wouldn't have happened," and you'd be wrong. It was ALL like that.

Q magazine (UK) likened the soundtrack of this film to The Rutles. Bits and pieces of riffs and cliche lyrics to form imaginary bands' songs. Though it has some charm and the film a good first effort for T. Hanks, they were very well meaning but pretty forgettable (though the film did launch Liv's and Tom E. Scotts careers). For person reasons (I'd met Scott), I tried to gave the song air time but it pretty fell flat. Program manager called it a B side at very best. I had to agree.

This song was ROBBED for the Best Original Song Oscar. A schmaltz ballad like a million others ("Because You Loved Me," from 'Up Close And Personal;' basically just another Celine Dion hit) won. But as Siskel and Ebert explained at the time, this song is masterfully written: totally convincing for the time period, catchy enough to be a hit, but not so good that the band is clearly the next Beatles (or whomever).

you cant even compare the two....nor is better than the other because of the vocal diversities. Anette was chosen after the new album was already written and they chose the the vocalist that they thought had what was needed for the new songs. I think Annete has been doing great......she's is great live too. They were fantastic when I saw them.

Everybody from the 80's has this nostalgic attitude for that era. I only remember a punch of girls creaming their pants at bands like INXS and Duran Duran. And there were all these guys who dressed like Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears and thought Depeche Mode were butch. (Gives you a good idea about how lame hard rock was.) I keep listening Nightwish with Tarja, I heard the new record of Nightwish and also Anette singing live, but for me it´s just another band, it´s not Nightwish. They sound good, Anette have a nice voice, but it is just another band completly different. The problem with Annette is that Tarja could create an atmosphere that breathed life into the songs, she has a powerful voice with so much character...she was everything, she was Nightwish. Annette has been thrown into a tough situation. She cant eclipse Tarja. She isnt a bad vocalist, she just doesnt suit Nightwish. Imagine if Tarja replaced one of the Pussycat Dolls? fucking horible show . if i were there i would have beaten every ones ass for the lead singer saggin those tight ass pants . great band but the performance was horible plus he looks like a fag . still a great band though
