Ah - the comments. Audi is shipping over the manual in the spring - so no worries ;) German reliability trails American. Not a little - but a lot. BMW has quite a few flaws - especially with its MINI division. Land Rover is also quite bad. Build quality? Eh - the newer American cars are catching up quickly. I would argue that Toyota is slipping a bit in reliability and build quality based on the Tundra and the Tacoma. Oh - and the first Toyotas SUCKED. SUCKED. CHEAP, TIN BOXES.

Lexus is took off so well because they were essentially copies of Mercs that costed less. It's the exact opposite in Europe, where there are long established manufacturers and a comprehensive dealership network. Even Infiniti isn't sold in Europe. Lexus is successful today because of marketing and a widespread dealership network, and being less expensive than BMW, etc.

I dont think so. The year the first Toyota Corolla came to the US was the the year it was it beat any European car sold in the US every year since, And also thats why Lexus took off so quick aswell, paying alot of money for a luxury car should mean you get a car that does not break down. As such the Lexus LS as earned the praise of the most reliable car in the world.

The reliability problems started in the mid-90's because European manufacturers started using eco-friendly parts - which weren't up to scratch. Every German car made before '93-94 runs like a watch, check out the Merc W124. Also, many Japanese manufacturers have been having the same problem. You should see the amount of recalls Toyota has issued in the past 3 years.

There's still not that much of a significant difference. In terms of build quality, with the nice materials and stuff, it is hard to argue that the europeans have better materials. Honda has better materials than Toyotas, as they have the soft touch plastics all around, while the Toyotas have it on the upper dash, but not found lower where the gloveboxe and stuff is. I had a Toyota Corolla and some guy rear-ended me, and I scratched my ankle at the bottom.

Yeah most definitely. The marketing here in America actually encourages people to buy automatic cars because of the long highways. But in some cities and areas there are narrower roads so more people drive manual there. Also, there are tons of driving enthusiasts here in America that know that manual is the only way to drive. My friend in Holland said that they also use manual to save gas because petrol is so expensive. I'd love to drive in Austria, awesome roads, beautiful scenery. Cheers

Let's think about why they pulled it. There was no market back then. Gas was cheap, nobody cared about global warming and there was no 9-11 or Iraq bullshit going on. The EV-1 couldn't travel far enough and not everyone has access to plug in cars so they NEED gas as a back up. Its just common sense.

you are correct about the sale price being 100,000.00, however you must consider that What Tesla has built is a bunch of hand made custom sports cars, where as GM is planing a production car. I think that would easily explain the difference in cost. I also agree w/ you on the Unions, each empl. prob cost over 100.00 per hr., but when you factor it all in, says to me POOR management, after all they are directly responsible for all of the decisions that created their present circumstances.

Tesla did build the vehicle you speak of--but the sale price is expected to exceed $100,000. And the fact is that the Volt, when used with 4 gallons of gas(or Ethanol) gets a 200+ mile range. Let's face the facts that GM's employee cost averages $70 per worker vs Toyota's $40 per worker. The problem is not with management but overpaid union workers. I think they should bankrupt to reorganize, but note their tech advances in the meantime.

They were to busy watching their personal bank accounts swell, (as did their heads) to notice what was going wrong with the company they were supposed to be overseeing. My feeling is that IF they build this car, Honda or Toyota will out do it by building one all electric w/ 200 or 300 mile range as Tesla Motors has already apparently done.

Dude AMG suck at handling, all they do is make cars for grandparents that like to cruise on the Autobahn. BMW makes really good engines that rev high and go fast. They are also the best handling car. FYI BMW makes M edition to which is exactly like AMG which are sports cars.

I just bought the FIT sport. MSRP in CA is $19430. Got mine for $19200 cash deal. Dealership tries to make money on the warranty and accessories, got none. Nicer center arm rest console is overpriced at $325. Have had it a week and did not open the manual yet. Wanna try paddle shifting soon. Live in San Francisco, and see quite a few of them around. Very low to ground, have to back into my driveway, very slowly or the fog lamp housing will scrape. A little bumpy compared to our 2002 Camry.

No chance, test drove both the new Versa and the Fit. Lots more space in the Fit, particularly with the clever back seats, but the cargo area is bigger even when the seats are up. No real difference in the drive, but when you consider the features, elec windows, ipod etc... it was a no brainer to select the Fit ahead of the Versa when the price was the same. Honda Fit every time.

The Versa is a much better car. You get more bang for your buck especially if you get the upgrade package that Nissan provides like bluetooth, wireless key entry, SAT radio, CVT transmission. With a Fit, you have to play all the extras that you want in the car. Plus I think Honda's are way over priced. Although the Fit is a cute little, I think its very over rated. Get a Versa SL. Its a better car for the money.

The Versa still has more room, especially at the front. I find the Fit has an un-efficent dashboard, taking a big chunk of interior space away from the passengers. Never owned the fit, but tried it and it's super hi quality, but I still got the Versa for it's lower price and more headroom and more leg room in between the front and back seats. I was also able to fit a 5-drawer chest in it once, but I am sure the Fit would also take that. Chers!

To be fair, the Miata and Smart are two seaters and the Smart is ... in a whole different class. Only vehicle I've ever seen with 3 lugs. I own a 1994 Civic and even if it were brand new I'd much rather be in an accident with a 2008 Civic. But I agree with you on the SUVs. It's just moms who don't want to drive a minivan. I agree- and I just tested Fit today; it falls into that in many cases. I know the TCS is in the sport only, but the airbags and ABS are in all of them. My mom was looking at the pontiac Vibe in 2007 and ABS was an OPTION!! I plan on buying the Sport Fit, but I drove the DX and it had A/C and power windows. Although the Canadian LX may not sell too well... they used the rims from the Civic hybrid and it looks terrible.

Do not be sorry about vivid blue pearl not being available. I have had mine for 2 years and the paint chips badly. Extremely poor quality. I suggest getting manual transmission. Although the EPA mileage numbers do not reflect it, many, including me get about 24-25 mpg in town driving. I do not speed, and my tires are inflated to 33psi. Highway numbers are good, 35-39 mpg.

bc 350z's are slow unless turboed/supercharged..saw some run the other night and they were all mid to high 14 second cars. and i promise you didnt beat any mustangs, a sotck gt runs high 13's off the lot. and notice gm doesnt build the trucks with those parts installed, you have to buy them..that's my point. mopar does the saame thing, they offer headers and cai's but not installed already. please enlighten me on what your awesome vmax has in it..i'd love to know

oooh wow, 22's from the factory?! those are great...if you enjoy running slower. put it to you this way, stock a vortec max runs low 15's in the 1/4..probably like 15.2ish, my truck ran a 14.85 in full street trim (heavy 20's w/ street tires, no weight reduction) and a half a tank of gas...throw on some 17s with drag radials and i'm instantly low 14s. and i can think of about 1000+ cars and trucks that will "keep up through the lights" my truck being one of them.

First of all GM has made there own Cold Air Intake System and Exhaust and headers(i think) that are all factory made that you can get installed right off the lot...some even come in with it...How come 350Z Mustangs hell even diesel's cant keep up to me...Even on the highway trying to pass a semi doin 100km/h before i even pass the front of the semi ive topped out at 160?? vortec max is definitely NOT what it is cracked up to be...the hemi runs dead even with it mostly depending on gearing and the vmax is a 6.0l, dodges 6.1l thats in the cars puts down 425hp. not too mention the hemi in this video is the newer one, the r/t will run circles around a vmax silverado...

actually just shut your mouth because GM is offering the Vortec Max special edition which is a 6.0L motor with 367 hp and around 400tq..Sure the dodge has 390 but i dought the come with a 4.10 rear end...i love hear loud muffler hemis trying to catch me in my VMAX..there with me off the line until i hit 3 grand and after that is when my truck starts perrrin and nothin is catching me...Now you can also get the 6.2L motor in the crew cabs and extended cabs now to with a 6 speed.

Yes the X6 handles much better than the Q7. The Q7 I would say handles better than an X5 though, but the X6 smokes both of them.

it has four seats, with decent spacing inside. The car is a joy to drive, honest. Ive driven different cars in my life, from sport cars to limousines and suv, the x6 is definitely one the the best ones I have driven so far. I never would have believed that an SUV could handle and feel like a nissan gtr, its just insane what BMW did with the sonofabitch.

Geez, let's not get too sensitive here BayernMunich4ever. I am a huge fan of BMW vehicles and will buy the 5-series next year. Lets stay on topic here: BMW makes some of the greatest cars on the planet but lets be honest - this is one terrible looking job from BMW and a poor effort. My prediction: This car will probably be discontineud within 5 years. If not, I would be VERY surprised.
