opera is a play though, effectivly. its a story told through song. not the same as concert music.
By: ljoekelsoey4. on 02 Dec 08, 21:35:08
my favourite version, and i think one of the only truly brilliant coda performances, most people pllay it far too quietly and restrained for my taste. presto con fuoco means WITH FIRE! not with indegestion, play it so :D
By: MI6MI5. on 23 Nov 08, 11:14:44
That is pure legato all through the piece
By: UrFACE1984. on 02 Nov 08, 12:31:18
My favorite Chopin piece. I wish I could play that well. I'm starting to learn it, and I hope to be that good! I'm going to put videos up once I do!

CD always has editing and not accurate representation of performance capabilility of the performer
By: LeeSooMan. on 29 Oct 08, 00:58:04
?????~ i like his CD version a lot better, it has so much more confidence and power.
By: clotho83. on 28 Oct 08, 13:38:10
He knew that he was placed in the 3rd place.
By: LeeSooMan. on 26 Oct 08, 08:01:38
i have a question, the Winner's concert was done after the awarding ceremony or before? so in this video Dong Hyek is already placed 3rd or he doesn't know?
By: ohvg61. on 20 Oct 08, 11:59:16
who am i? i am somebody who has an opinion, and who has the right to tell his opinion any time he wants to, like everybody else, including you. you can disagree with me on this pianist, it's just ok, have fun listening to him!
By: blueangel8034. on 20 Oct 08, 04:00:28
who are YOU to say he will never become a truly great pianist? do you really think you are qualified to make that kind of judgment? and judging from other people's comments i can see a lot of people already take him seriously. geez.
By: Grigor99. on 17 Oct 08, 21:03:42
I disagree about music only being for the ears. Why would anyone want to go to a live concert then? Aside from the sound being different than on a CD. What about opera? Why go see an opera live if you can hear all the music on a CD? You go to see the musicians actually interact with the music-no??

parkhighmountain is spot on. Beautiful.
By: Jackie93111. on 28 Sep 08, 22:39:55
This piece is so touchy. I first heard it from movie "The Pianist" and I love it!
By: parkhighmountain. on 27 Sep 08, 11:19:00
He is playing so wonderfully that I feel as if I see living Chopin. Thanks
By: bribiescaluis. on 27 Sep 08, 06:14:41
Sorry guys but I think the greatest is The Grand Brillian Polonaise in E flat major! But this piece would be the second with Fantasia- Impromtu in C!! Anyways this is a masterpiece!!
By: ohvg61. on 20 Sep 08, 10:47:00
exactely. D-H Lim thinks the opposite

Music is for the ears not the eyes
By: mingyusarang. on 14 Sep 08, 04:50:55
true true. but still, you can't say that he is only wanting to believe that he is. i mean, he is a great pianist.
By: ohvg61. on 13 Sep 08, 07:43:53
no,no. he is not into the music, he only wants us to believe he is, this is bad acting, nothing else. this seems to be some kind of a "trend" of today, and somebody who is acting like that will NEVER become a truly great pianist and can not be taken seriously. just think about it: NOONE from the great pianists of the past were doing this, Horowitz, Rachmaninov, Rubinstein etc., does that mean they were not into the music?...it has to be a reason for that, no? ;)
By: sissichopin91. on 11 Sep 08, 13:39:15
You are a great man! I think the same! THE BALLADE IN G MINOR IS THE MASTERPIECE OF THE MASTERPIECES!
By: mingyusarang. on 22 Aug 08, 21:42:50
gikcp34/// are you kidding me ? facial expressions depends on the person. they get lost in the music, some parts have a happy and animated feeling. others, sad or furious. he is just into the music. if you were a great pianist, you would understand.
By: ShaggyRaggy. on 19 Aug 08, 23:23:37
lol the facial expressions are more funny than annoying
By: PianoMan62249. on 19 Aug 08, 21:38:32
And people need to quit bitching about everything on here...for god's sake, the kid played the song well, as do many other people. Who cares who plays it better when all we should care about is listening to the music. I'd much rather listen to the song than listen to people bitch about who plays it better...
By: PianoMan62249. on 19 Aug 08, 21:35:40
I honestly don't see what everyone is talking about. I don't find his facial expressions annoying in the least. In fact, I think it adds very much to his performance. And he plays this beautifully, which is incidentally my favorite piece of music ever written (I think it's the masterpiece of masterpieces)...and after all, that's really all that matters; finding the soul of the piece and conveying it. One of the better interpretations of the ballade I've heard in a long time.
