that's behavioural interaction rather than actually verbal language-based communication, which is very different. studies have shown parrots to have no more cognition than other animals - it's just that they can produce accurate sounds. as for other pets, they are simply conditioned, whether instigated or not, to respond to your actions. there's a lot of interesting studies out there on animal behaviour!

they can sign but only to the extent of a 2 year old deaf child at best. if you read extracts of the many interviews with koko you can see for most part that patterson reads far too much into the gestures. asl users working with koko at the time could not even identify with a reasonable degree of clarity most of the signals she came out with - signs that patterson somehow found meaning in!

lol even my cat understand some of my words. and i understand maybe few different voices from it like when it's hungry or something.. and dogs understand so many things! so why that gorilla wouldn't understand them. btw dogs would maybe use hands for many things if they would just have them. oh and also some parrots can even talk and understand peoples
