Probably used the original "instruments" when Trek was in it's infancy as this was one of the earliest episodes. Could also tell because of the "Desilu" studio trademark used before Paramount took it over, but then was surprised by the TNG/DS9/Voyager modern day era "Paramount" studio theme that followed "Desilu".
