Harry was a Musical Genius who John Lennon said was the greatest songwriter he ever knew. Harry wrote ONE, covered by Three-Dog Night. For us Baby-Boomers, He also wrote the Intro to "The Courtship of Eddy's Father," as well as many other songs. He was the MOST prolific of song writers and they were ALL different, which is GENUIS, but record companies did not like this. They always wanted to play it safe, but he never wrote for record companies...only for himself...which is the way it should be.

I'd like to see a re-make of "Duck, You Sucker" starring Pierce Brosnan as Sean and Al Pacino as Juan! This music was NOT in the original film score. I can see John McTiernan,who directed Mr. Brosnan in the remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair", directing this remake of "Duck, You Sucker!". I like this music a lot! It's a haunting poetic film with a score to match. The flashbacks are masterpieces. Thank you for posting this wonderful music and visuals!!!

I read that in IMDB and it brought tears to my eyes. He adored that little girl until the day he died. There is a clip of him on Whats My Line talking about her and Mrs. Durante. I remember watching Jimmy on so many shows in the 50s and 60s as a kid. We would watch TV with our family, parents, grandparents. It was great. Everytime I hear his song or see the clips of Jimmy performing it brings back memories. Real good ones too. At almost 56 it doesn't seem so long ago. Well most of the time. :-)

Jimmy Durante saw they delivered margarine to their table while he was served real butter. He told the waitress to take the butter to my parents because "they deserve it more than me". As a fellow Yorkshireman (in some respects!) I agree. He can make you laugh and smile and cry in the same song, on occasion (Ulysees!). The Ballad of Billy Kershaw is stunning, but it's the BBC 4 documentary I really want to see again. Fascinating chap. Sithee!

The first time i saw jake was at the crucible theatre in sheffield in 1971. With my mum dad and sister. By the way i was 9 and my sister 7 years old.Memory fails me as to which song my sister requested, but we left a note at the stage door, and jake announced he was singing it for Sarah, (my sister). I saw him many more times at the rockingham arms at wentworth and spoke to him several times. What a wonderful wordsmith, and very underated guitarist. Im 46 tomorrow and jake remains a hero!
