KC had many hits. His tunes fit his limited vocal range. I opened for him recently and it was no big deal. I wish I could have met Karen Carpenter. That would be something. Rolling Stone rated her quite low as a singer, She would be in my top ten.

BBBYpsi: Like athletes develop and evolve throughout history of the Olympics to break records, it's a good thing singers today are finding ways of improving their techniques and vocal flexibility, resonance, style. The problem now is these poor singers don't have the producers and musicianship support of a cohesive industry that existed in the 50's, 60's and 70's era. There are many fine singers today who can't make it because they have no real support system.

KSchwab9: Of course it doesn't matter depending on what you prefer. Some people enjoy listening to technically superior voices because it suits their egos believing they identify with the winners. I think people who are more sensitive and emotionally versed enjoy KC's voice then those who prefer a Whitney Houston. For a well balanced vocal performance, Eva Cassidy's takes the cake. She was a KC fan in her youth, I'm sure.

It's true KC wasn't as technically proficient a singer as today's but it is also true that she sang with greater sensitivity and feeling then many of those today. If we could just find singers who strike a happy balance along with the material they choose to perform things would be perfect.

not a good singer are you nuts. Your saying that todays singers are better then the ones back then? Tell me a male singer that can sing like andy williams or a female like barbra striesand. With Karen Carpenter in was the tone & how she made you feel when she sang. She makes you feel at ease with the tone & the way she presented the song.
