she's Christine Lakeland, and has been with John (J. J.) Cale from Day 2 (if not day 1). Plays a mean piano, too. I'm in Memphis Tennessee, and we do it slow here...LOL I've seen J. J. about 100 times, and he never blows it, even when the band does. If they blow it, he's kinda nice about it.

Obviously a big difference from the single & the watered-down Clapton version. But when the giants play live, and the backing musicians are so good, you gotta pay attention & go to school! JJ Cale is one of the great unsung (??) songwriters, too.

Also the first recording by Cale is slower and way better. The groove is so subtle and souful yet intense. The Clapton version is the 70's party version. It's fast.

The song is so simple, its only 4 chords on the guitar. Yet it's presented with such ease and elegance that it's damn near hypnotic. And then there are the lyrics. The feeling of longing is as universal as it gets. We've all been there but to often we let our day to day get it in the way. We are all very fortunate that JJ Cale captures and channels that kind of emotion for us all. A shot of JJ's Magnolia helps to heal the sprite if only for a little while.

This guy is a legend, his music means as much for music as for example Bob Marley's reggae. I ask myself this question many times: Why is this guy not so famous? I think it's because of his personality, he doesn't like to be in the spotlights. The man is the most relax and shy person I know. Huge hits like after midnight and cocaine are songs the whole world knows, but J.J. Cale??? Who the hell is that?? Maybe it's for the best this way.. I don't know...
