Not really. Actually that's a common known myth. Some raccoons, depending on their behavior, venture out looking for food or shelter if their home was damaged. If a raccon is seen in the daytime it should be left alone.

@ endospinktrousers : Yes they can. In my kitchen raccoon teamed up with my dog - raccoon opened fridge while sitting on back of dog - they shared he goodies.

I really doubt your cat would win. Don't get me wrong, my cat is fully grown and is all muscle cause he likes to play outside all day, and even though we've only trimmed his claws once when he was young they're really long and really sharp. Raccoons are from the street, they know how to fight and their claws are beastly also, plus an adult coon is generally larger. Raccoon has my vote.
