i'd like to see some spparing
By: Peekingduck. on 29 Jan 08, 07:34:28
Cool, since we are in the same ryu ; D
By: fieldspec. on 28 Jan 08, 14:38:11
no offence at all ;)
By: Peekingduck. on 28 Jan 08, 13:28:40
Point taken. Sorry if I offended you.
By: fieldspec. on 28 Jan 08, 08:44:47
look, I completely agree with your opinion. I mention the Otake-ha only to differentiate it from other -ha's, but I am perfectly aware, as one of the practisers who made keppan, that this is the only branch allowed by the soke. And I would not post anything as it is not allowed by the shimbu dojo.
By: Peekingduck. on 24 Jan 08, 12:30:37
Otake-ha. Otake sensei's dojo is not a branch. C'mon! Also. I doubt these guys have any ties to a real shihan since Otake-sensei is 'the' shihan of Katori shinto ryu. (if you don't trust me check with the nihon budokan office9 This is a School-copy from a book or a video. If they were with Otake sensei they would not be aloud to post videos etc.
By: fieldspec. on 27 Dec 07, 10:50:27
if they were Otake-ha practicers, they would tell them to make maki-uchi men with hands over the head, not over the shoulder, with elbows wide open.
By: fieldspec. on 27 Dec 07, 10:48:20
IMHO kirikomi has a good kamae but acts with too much hurry. So things like hokachidachi are not good. I practice Otake-ha, I don't know Sugawara Sensei.
By: WolfmstreatbyhMeideL. on 26 Dec 07, 09:56:00
Other thing: Hokachi-Dachi. Your Ukedachi Hokachi-Dachi is deeply uncorrect. I know it's so difficult as technique to do it in a speedy way to play, but is not so "shouldering" the force that take the sword from under and make it act a turn is more on: hips low, that comes up and turn tight on themselves... and the sword remain in the same position all the time, that is moving are only an up-down tight turnament on body axis of hips. Hands keep the sword still but soft, without an effort.
By: WolfmstreatbyhMeideL. on 26 Dec 07, 09:41:09
An another important thing: The Kamae(Guard): You keep the kamae almost ever pointing the bokken tip to high part of head of your partner....in the start even you point it OVER the line of the head...and this is not correct. Your point of the bokken might ever being pointed to chudan -sunny plexus- or(as I prefer :-D hehehehehe!!!)to the throat of the partner....precisely to the point of junction of the neck's throat and the collarbones Is there where you might point your guard(kamae)
By: WolfmstreatbyhMeideL. on 26 Dec 07, 09:29:18
Hummm...Too much near each other as ma-ai in some steps, please notice the distances of the swords... And in doing kesa-giri(trasversal cutting)in the end of kata, usually you might do a jump, and this for give strenght and a final kime(stillness decision)imprint to the shot, and for narrowing the distance, more speedly. ....Otherwise the kata could continue!!! :-P He-he!!
By: nii87. on 24 Dec 07, 10:24:37
Sorry guys, I meant Hatakeyama that learnt under Sugino. Sugawara studied TSKSR from the main branch with Otake-sensei.
By: nii87. on 04 Nov 07, 07:19:37
Personally I don't think this is Sugawara-ha. Sugawara was taught under Yoshio Sugino, correct? I study under the Sugino-ha, and this video bears more resemblance to either Otake's school or copied off the videos he has performed in (which is more likely, after watching all Jinmukai videos).
By: eaguard1020. on 08 Sep 07, 16:20:41
I am a student of Sugawara Tetsutaka.
By: akiritsuke. on 08 Sep 07, 14:56:32
guys...sorry for my bad ass english spelling on previous text response (= if you actually are trainees os tsksr,it would be great to get to know your experiences learning this great art!
By: akiritsuke. on 08 Sep 07, 14:48:48
do you train katori shinto ryu?im a member of the sugawara ha tsksr myself and have studied the art under the guidance of sugawara sensei. take a look at his history in traditional japanese budo and you`ll find out wether his proper teacher or not.he`s shihan in aikido and has a kyoshi lisence in katori shinto ryu witch he receaved from Otake risuke sensei.he studied aikido under morihei ueshiba sensei for years.the style of his tsksr is considered to be the same as otakes senseis.
By: eaguard1020. on 31 Jul 07, 12:39:02
I agree with kaifinn. I will refrain from any technical critique, but in general, everything seems to be a bit too belabored, and not very direct. I am not sure if this is one of Sugawara sensei's groups or not, but I would definitely say that they are not indicitive of the overall quality of his students.
By: kaifinn. on 12 Jul 07, 14:46:47
i don"t like the way they move.
By: irwan0168. on 21 Feb 07, 07:34:03
Yup, its Sugawara Ha, i've the rest of collections but there's no "gokui"
By: aldi21301. on 20 Feb 07, 08:27:43
Very Nice, well performed "omote no Tachi" the style is definetly Sugawara Ha TSKSR. i wonder who teach all of you guys, its perfect !
