I think I'm the only person in my high school that truly appreciates jazz :D After listening to Desmond for a while, the straight swing feels repetitive. This is true jazz, in my opinion. I don't think there really exists anyone who can play like Desmond did. This is a perfect example of how music is so much more than notes and counting.

While I don't have anything bad to say about Dave Brubeck, "He didn't play the same boring bebop that every other jazzer was playing at the time" doesn't have much truth to it. Which "boring bebop" that "every other jazzer" was playing? You should check out a few more records, I think.
