This brings back memories of the days when I used to watch cartoons. I distinctly remember this intro for the Woody Woodpecker show with Walter Lantz and also Grace Stafford who provided voice for Woody. Actually, I think this is a part of a historical piece of information when Walter talks about how Woody's character came into existence.

this version came out in the mid 1960's(and that was when Walter Lantz still made cartoons for the theaters while other studios "shut down" the animated shorts departments!). I recall one version in which Woody fought a rouge projector in a prelog to the next Woody cartoon.

In most cases, the voice was electronically sped up. Mel Blanc was the voice in "Knock Knock" and the first three Woodys (including the public-domain "Pantry Panic"), then animator Ben "Bugs" Hardaway (who had created both Woody and Bugs Bunny) did the voice until the Lantz studio shut down in 1949. When it reopened the following year, Woody was largely mute, except for a laugh done by Lantz' wife, Grace Stafford, who assumed his voice shortly after.

The intro shown on this video was the same one as shown on WNEW, except for after the part when Woody says "Sorry!" and Walter Lantz starts talking (none of the Walter Lantz segments were shown). "The "Cartoon showtime!" bumper was also shown.

I don't remember Woody on NBC Saturday mornings during the early Seventies and in 1976, even though I was old enough to have seen it. I must have been watching something else at the time. With that said, I became a big fan of Woody, Chilly Willy and Andy Panda when WNEW became broadcasting this program during the late '70s. One of the best shows ever.
