By the time they came to my hometown I knew all the lyrics (at least the words I understood). I met some older guys, including Rebels, before the show at Mönckeberg Brunnen, which was the place to gather for Teds and Rockabillys in town.

Ahhhh! I'm back in ''82 at the Lyceum in Sheffield. I've paid my three quid and I'm about to see the best band in the world. they play this song and the guitarist is Shakin Stevens ( Obviously he aint, but he's a lookalike)Brian is the most amazing performer that ever walked the earth. And this is the epitome of is performance skills as a teenager

When i said nobody was more like Elvis than Shaky, i mean only in looks and dance, in no way do i think Shaky brought more to music than Elvis. When it comes to talant Shaky is no where near Billy and Elton, although i do like Shaky.

You say Billy Joel and Elton John can't come into this... yes they can... this is not a selected artists only debate and comparing shaky to these two acts (he is easily worthy of such a comparison) is a lot more sensible than comparing him to Elvis and The Beatles, by far the two most groundbreaking acts of the rock era.

The point about Elvis' not writing his own songs is mute when you consider what he did for music. Both Cliff Richard and The Beatles have gone on record as saying No Elvis, No us, so you can be certain there would have been no Shakin' Stevens as well. If you're trying to tell me SS was as much a groundbreaker, innovator and influncer to rock music as much as Presley and The Beatles, I'll just laugh, even though I like SS a lot.

Why is he not up there? i love Elvis... but Elvis didnt wright his own songs. noboby is more like elvis than Shaky....(in those days). Billy Joel and Elton John cant come in to this. (although Billy is far better than Elton)

Shakin' Stevens has much more talent than the rollers and certainly much more talent than westlife. OK, he (shaky) is not up there with elvis or the beatles, but he has a better voice than elton john and is as good a songwriter as billy joel.

Westlife have had more #1s than any band bar the beatles in the UK (not worldwide!) they may catch up (possibly), but lets not forget the beatles were a different area and westlife are nowhere near as universal and the beatles and shall never have as many #1 albums.

PMSL no they didn't. They didn't even outsell The Beatles in 1973 (the rollers biggest year), more copies of the red album and the blue album were sold than all the rollers singles albums combined that year (and for the next two years). Lets not forget all the millions and millions the Beatles also sold before the rollers came along, and the millions and millions they continue to sell, while the rollers are lucky to sell half the tickets at one sale at pub gigs!

I agree some of shakys best songs were on his 77 album shakin stevens...shame track folded...he did also some other tunes like lend me your heart and 12 bar blues which never saw cd yet.... i love sound inocerpareted on the album too...very wild stuff...i prefer this to shakys earlier version...and the polydor single is slightly different too

That was the first time I've seen that clip since I watched it when it went out nearly 30 years ago! ISTR it taken from the Bay City Rollers TV Show and the track is from a very brief flirtation Shaky had with the "wall of sound". I believe that the album he recorded called simply "Shakin Stevens" at the time was better than anything he did before or since.
