definitely something wrong with his ligature, he was adjusting it at the beginning, then at4:27 there are a couple notes that's not fully blown. But the moving ligature at 1:38 just show what amazing strength he has! He's a master and one of my favorite!

Puffing the cheeks is not that bad. Good players do that for altissimo notes to add more space for bigger sound.

Are the drums overdubbed on this or something? Look at 6:27-6:30 and watch Weckl, what we see him doing is not what we hear, but the bass seems in time so it's not and audio sync issue.

What Eric is playin isnt actually that hard, when i listen to it closely (if i was to play it slower tat is :p) These players dont always play the impossible Mike Brecker riffs, but keep it simple n sounding sweet, thats what its about for me!

bud powell and wynton kelly both definitely started classical. maybe they couldn't play ravel like bill evans, but they definitely started classical. i'm not positive about monk--i can't find much info on his early life. i'd say it's likely that he at very least had exposure to classical music through his sister's lessons and his own limited formal training before becoming a jazz prodigy. if anyone knows a detailed open source reference about monk's life, i'd be grateful.

I don't know, I'm no expert, but if something is beautiful then that's what it is. How can you make an itnerpretation of beauty? She has countless faces and each of them is true:). not even just latin...afro-cuban. chano told dizzy "we both speak african!" heck yes this is jazz...the best of the best, one of THE landmark charts of the genre jig, i'm curious as to what you don't like about it. is the it repeating riffs? guess what...that's KC jazz (ala basie) in a nutshell. there's improv, it contains the meat of swing feeling....it's jazz the only problem i have with the vid....this chart hardly exists without congas. how could they think they'd get away with that?!?!?!
