By: jbdanfan. on 26 Nov 08, 20:10:47
I actually heard him play this exactly 10 years ago this Thanksgiving weekend at an old ballroom in an "interesting" part of Milwaukee. It gave me chills that night (especially the part where the horns kick int) and still does.

He`s more than good - he`s the best in this music on guitar `cause he feels it... :-)

Wow. Terrific version of a classic. Great re-interpretation of the melody by Master Setzer!
By: unmarkedreel. on 14 Nov 08, 22:57:25
Modest Mouse did a version
By: daveschrdr. on 09 Nov 08, 17:48:55
awesome version of this classic, especially the solo at the end, never heard Brian solo like that :)
By: TJLethal21. on 05 Nov 08, 01:11:53
Santo and Johnny recorded it first, The Ventures, The Shadows, Los Straightjackets, Dick Dale, and I also believe Stevie Ray Vaughan may have done a version as well. I love this song, Setzer kills it in this performance though, that tone is amazing.

By: skimtildeath32. on 23 Oct 08, 23:45:34
wow ive never heard him use that much distortion in the solos. sounds really nice. this is a great version, but theres nothing better when he plays by himself

ursathemagnificent, Go sit in a corner somewhere, until you win your first Grammy.
By: jbpink. on 14 Oct 08, 04:11:52
They call us the peanut gallery for a reason. Talent like Brian can, sometimes, make the good money, but most are satisfied just to make a living at what they do. The rest of us earn "peanuts" for our comments & observations. No talent or smarts required to be a peanut, but it does allow many of us to say "thank you" to talent like Brian.
By: ursathemagnificent. on 13 Oct 08, 00:38:22
Yeah, but you were saying "This performance alone needs to be shown to anyone who questions the talent he has." And I was responding by saying that I, as someone who doubts his talent, am not the least bit swayed by this video, and it actually reinforces what I don't like about him. Winning a Grammy doesn't equal talent to me.
By: lghall234. on 12 Oct 08, 08:21:59
This song was originally recorded by Santo and Johnny, not the Ventures.
By: Ycoadta. on 11 Oct 08, 13:07:16
Santo and Johnny.

Thanks for the info. I know he uses a Space echo. I found one at Guitar Center in mint condition. Roland makes a new version which is pretty close, but the vibe of having vintage equipment is just too cool. Brian uses 2 Fender 59' Bassman amps to complete his sound.
By: revkevbo22. on 11 Oct 08, 02:56:44
Which original? The version I am familiar with is done by the Ventures, who copied off of someone else. I just think Satriani needs to what he does best and leave the old style and big band to Setzer.
By: kleniner. on 10 Oct 08, 23:45:57
Don't know if you'd call it a peal, but I believe he does use a Fulltone tape echo, a basic rockabilly tool.
By: Pookiestud. on 01 Oct 08, 23:56:19
I love Setz....talented guy.....plus he now lives in my home state..hehe. Much respect for sure. Great player....great guy.
By: revkevbo22. on 30 Sep 08, 02:47:54
SLides have there place in blues and for steel guitar (which was what the orignal was trying to imitate). I just think Setzer does a better job and certainly is a consummate showman. Slides are great for lots of southern rock and new country too. However, to get the sound and swell with just the volume knob and not sound "cheesy"- well that is why Brian is making the bucks and we're commenting on YouTube.
